Up at 8.30am and finally a day where we can take things a little slower as we are staying here for 3 nights. Breakfast was pretty crowded and we had simple things like jam on toast, muffins, OJ. Kerry tried the Hot Chocolate but it was not hot enough for her liking ! We were thinking of going to the adjoining Baybrook Mall Shopping Centre as Kerry was keen to go to Macy’s but it’s Easter Sunday and closed. Hence plan B was enacted and we will go instead to Houston Zoo which is about 30 minutes away in Downtown Houston. Parking was fun ! We drove around the block a few times and as there was lots of picnic gardens nearby where everyone was having an Easter Sunday cookout there was no parking anywhere. We kept driving and eventually found a parking garage at the rear of the zoo near the Medical Centre and surprise surprise the Zoo had a rear entry ! Only $12- to park all day so not too bad. Highlight of the zoo was meerkats (as always) and gorillas, and all the monkeys. As we arrived there around 1.45pm in the afternoon a lot of animals
were sleeping so my tip for next time go in the mornings !! On the way home we decided to pop into a nearby Walmart and found just a couple of Easter eggs (Russell Stover brand which started making chocolates in 1923). I also bought another $7.98 polo shirt and Kerry got a much needed new handbag as the one she has been carrying around has been useless ! As we left Walmart it was about 7.00pm so we saw a place right next door called Texas Roadhouse. It was right in front of us with a nice looking building and had a lot of cars parked there so we thought it must be OK. First thing I noticed inside was all the peanut shells on the floor. That’s right you peel them and just toss them on the floor ! We had an appetizer called Tater Skins that was to die for. Potato skins with tiny bacon bits and jack cheese melted all over with sour cream on the side. We need to make these in the air fryer when we get back home ! For mains Kerry had a 6 oz sirloin with seasoned rice and green beans
whilst I had the 8 oz with steal fries and fresh vegetables (broccoli and baby carrots which looked soft but were crunchy which felt weird but nice !). We got back to our Holiday Inn Express around 9pm, boy is this Motel a hard place to find with all the rad works. I am getting better but still waiting to nail the perfect route ! One thing I have observed here in Houston is that everyone drives like crazy. On the freeway we use the I45 cars are gong past me like I am standing still. At least 20-30 miles per hour (32-46 kph) faster and Kerry is freaking out ! Anyway we are off to bed now and be ready for a big day tomorrow. We are off to the Johnson Space Centre to visit NASA.
