Black eye
Don't headbutt a shelf as it will give you a black eye. There’s a Spring in my step…..
From Memphis we made our way to Texas via a hot and sweaty greyhound bus with many stops in weird little towns…! On our arrival in Houston we were greeted by the now customary homeless man offering us everything from a taxi ride to a slab of meat, we unfortunately didn’t take him up on anything but we did find a taxi and as it was midnight we couldn’t wait to get in. We were very unlucky with the taxi driver, for starters he had no idea where we wanted to go and secondly he filled up with petrol twice! Literally ‘taken for a ride’….oh well at least it is swelteringly hot we thought! (Infact it was sooooo hot and humid the whole time we were here) This though was the only annoying section of what was a brilliant few days of rest and relaxation amongst superb hospitality! Seriously, thanks to David and his family for everything!
The taxi driver got so lost that David (David and his wife Traci along with children Alyssa, Harrison and Cameron were who we stayed with and are part of my aunt’s family) came to meet us
and by the time we had arrived it was gone one in the morning. We stayed a few miles out of Houston in a place called Spring which was a sweet little town. The next few days were spent catching up on sleep, shopping, eating and witnessing Spurs finish in the best position they have done for years! (No more lasagne jokes please Geo!) It was so nice just to do nothing for a while and that’s what we wanted to do, lovely! Saying that though, we still managed to fit in visits to a huge shopping mall, a night out and several meals out!
On the first evening though I managed to get myself a black eye, no Fran hasn’t had enough of me (I think she has though!!), I head butted the corner of a shelf. You know, wake up at half two in the morning and realise there is a lamp on…what to do?…..get up wander towards it half asleep and forget about the shelf…good plan. Check out the photos for a laugh.
Anyway, David and his family have a great house, big enough for me and Fran to have a room all to ourselves and
they even had a games room with a pool table which was a novelty and a great way to chill out. They also had three indoor dogs who were so cool and fun to play with, especially Berkley! They all make good guard dogs too as everyone who came in through the back door got a thorough inspection which usually involved barking for a couple of minutes!
On the Saturday, our first whole day, I had my barnet chopped! I really needed a haircut and the place where Harrison took me were really good and managed to chop off my ginger bush which I had cultivated for a good 6 weeks or so…they had to whip out the garden shears. All good though, my head can now breathe. We went out for a great meal at an Italian then into downtown Houston for a few drinks and a boogie. Alyssa took us to a cool little jazz club called Sammy’s which was a bit different to anything I had done before….really good even if there were a few too many sweaty random men, one had an awesome pair of red jeans on. Anyway, a good time was had by
Monster truck
I bet its really cheap to fill up! all.
Apart from sleep, the Sunday was taken up with visiting a huge shopping complex called The Woodlands which entertained us for ages, the Abercrombie shop was visited as was the Hollister shop…money was spent…whoops. Along with this trip we also ate out with Alyssa at a place called Bj’s…….would have made me laugh years ago……I did chuckle a bit, how immature, which was cool…..I had a huge rack of ribs (medal) and we went to a proper Texan burger place with Traci which served the biggest burgers I have seen over here. There was a truck in the parking lot which was also huge! We also ate some proper Texan fare including some brisket (smoked meat) which was fantastic! We ate well in Texas! Overall, we enjoyed our time here in Spring, TX……a big thank you to the Lalor family who put us up and treated us to a great few days. Hope to see you all again-good luck with everything for the future.
And on a really random final note…I have mysteriously been losing underwear since I have been away…..so a relief parcel full of smalls would go down a treat with me at this present
Mega cheese
Disgustingly cheesy pose moment in time! Sorry if anyone now feels a bit ill after reading that!
Peace out, take care.
Oh yeah…and in case you all wondered…we are in Denver at the moment, moving on to Seattle today so my Denver blog will be on in the next couple of days…enjoy.
