Jeff and I talked about going to South Dakota for months. Jeff had never been and, although, I'd been to there and really enjoyed it, I'd never seen Mount Rushmore. So, one night over a bottle of wine, we booked our airfare for the weekend of the 4th of July. Our intention was to watch the fireworks there on the 3rd of July. We didn't wind up doing that (they recommend that you get there at 10 a.m. and we didn't want to sit around at the park for 12+ hours), but we had a lot of other great adventures. So, we'll take from the top:

Day 1 - July 2nd, 2008

We arrived at the Rapid City airport at noon and picked up our little Mazda rental car and headed to our hotel. It was a complete shitter (Priceline is really starting to piss me off with its hotel rating system), but we unloaded our crap and headed down Hwy 16 to Mount Rushmore. It was an unusually cloudy day, but it was nice and cool. We took some pics of the mountain and of a really cute squirrel. On our way back up to Rapid City, we stopped at a blacklight, indoor miniature golf place. We dranks beers and shot 12 holes. We had a really fun time and Jeff beat me even though I got several holes-in-one.
