Gone Fishing
Gone Fishing - after I took the shot, it was successful catching it's dinner. Saturday, April 27, 2002
We (Brian and Michele) woke up bright and early (4:30 AM) to get on the road south to Vacation. Fripp Island, South Carolina was our destination and it was only 11 hours away! We had packed up the truck the night before to help ease the pain of the early morning start.
We only stopped a couple times. During the trip it was cool to check out the “South of the Border” bill boards.
We arrived at “Parks Place” condo at around 5:00 PM and unpacked the groceries and clothes from the truck. After we put them away, Brian showed me around the place. We walked down to the ocean and walked around the courtyard that was filled with flowers (and bees).

We (Brian and Michele) got to sleep in after the long ride the day before. Today was going to be an easy day, close to the Island. Brian had a 2:00 tee time at South Carolina National. During the day we also drove to Ocean Creek, on the Island, to check it out. There was a HUGE alligator sunning himself on the 9th hole. Brian did well and
Get me outta here.
I was too close to him for comfort. Michele got to see her first alligator (actually two of them together) outside of the car.

We (Brian and Michele) got up early again to drive to Savannah. We arrived at the golf course, Southbridge before 10 AM. They were only allowing play on the front nine because they were aerating the back nine. Brian played the front nine twice since he had to pay full price. He did well but it was busy and slow. We saw a lot of animals and our dream home with wrought iron light posts out front.
After golfing, we drive into Savannah, checked out the visitor’s center and bought souvenirs. Then we drove to Bonaventure Cemetery, you may have heard of that in the book/movie “Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil”. It was beautiful and educational. There were many really old graves and many children. We were amazed at all of the sculptures.
After almost dying of heat exhaustion in the almost 100°, 100% humidity, we drove to Tybee Island. It is similar to the beaches we have here, in Delaware. We stopped there because they had a nice lighthouse. On the way back we noticed Bubba Gumbo’s Shrimp. We thought it said Bubba Gump Shrimp. Oh well, we took a picture anyway.

Today we (Brian and Michele) went to Ocean Creek. It was on the Island. We were worried the weather was going to be bad and it did get really cold but turned around before the front nine were finished. It sprinkled a few times during the day but nothing too bad. Brian was paired up with someone but we cannot remember his name. He was nice.
This is the place that Michele saw the most to photograph. Then when she took the film out of the camera, she noticed it was on manual and the settings were not correct. She was so upset but after getting them developed, they were not ALL lost. It was a good thing too because this roll had the really big alligator that we weren’t more than 10 feet from.

We (Brian and Michele) drove to Hilton Head, South Carolina this day. Brian had an 11:00 tee time for the Ocean Course in Sea Pines Plantation. It is one of three courses in the community. It was beautiful and very “uppity”. They even had clean, folded towels in the golf cart for you. We bought 2 waters and 2 sodas for $7!
Brian was originally paired up with a couple but they wanted to go ahead and Brian was fine with that because he prefers to take his time. There was no one behind us and we could take all the time we wanted for pictures or practice swings or whatever we wanted. Brian did really well, probably because of the low stress but maybe because of how well the distance markers were placed and the condition of the greens.
After golfing, we went to Harbour Town to check out the lighthouse that is shown in all the golf magazines. What a disappointment. It was a little shopping village and I think they had a restaurant in the bottom of the lighthouse. This is also where Michele almost fell if it hadn’t been for Brian saving me. He has the wounds of a hero.

In the morning we (Brian and Michele) drove to Hunting Island to check out the beach and the lighthouse. We stopped by the visitor’s center first and learned about the Island and saw an alligator. On the beach, Brian found a shark’s tooth and Michele took pictures. We also went to the lighthouse but we didn’t go inside because it was too hot and there were several school children groups there.
Later that day, we went to Ocean Point Golf Course. As usual, Brian golfed and Michele took pictures. We got really close to a Great Blue Heron. It was beautiful and so close a zoom lens wasn’t even needed.

We packed up the truck to head home. We stopped by the Fripp Ship for souvenirs before leaving the Island. We got home before midnight.
