My daughter Tanya and her boyfriend Ben came at 8:30 to take us to GSP Airport. We arrived at GSP and checked in. I had been worried about my passport, since it expired right around the 6 month time frame I read about. Apparently I was wrong or it was okay. The other thing I was worried about was our backpacks being too big, but apparently no problem there either.
We then went up to go thru TSA. I had to be padded down because I didn’t think I had to remove any non-metal items, but the rule was to remove everything. Oh well. I had it easy compared to Manoli, because her bar of laundry soap keyed off the scanner and she had to have everything taken out of her backpack.
We found our gate, A2, and settled in. I got my usual cappuccino and Boston Creme doughnut while we waited. Right on time, we were called for boarding. I had noticed most people had to check their bags, which were even smaller than ours, but when our turn came, we were waived thru. Our seats were in the very back and there were no spaces to stow
our backpacks, but just a couple rows in front there was an empty bin. Yippee!
After about an hour, we landed in Charlotte, with less than 20 minutes before our boarding time for JFK. We made it, but they were already boarding. Fortunately, I guess, we were in group 9, so I had time to go to the restroom and buy a Dr. Pepper. A few minutes later we were on board and on our way to JFK. This time, since we didn’t want to pay extra for seats, we were not seated together. Oh well, it would be a relatively short flight, and for our flight to Paris we’d paid for seat assignments.
We landed at JFK about 2 hours later. Since our last flight, to Paris, was in a couple of hours, and the departure gate was close, we wandered around the terminal for a while. We found a decent place to get something to eat and sat down. We ordered 3 slices of bacon and pineapple pizza, New York style. After our light lunch, we went back to our departure gate and only had a short wait. As I stated before, for this flight we had
paid for assigned seats, but we were still group 9 so we had to wait a while before boarding.
We finally got on board, stowed our bags, in bins a ways away from our seats, and sat down. After almost 2 hours, they served dinner. All they had was chicken and something like quinoa, but it was pretty good. It was a long flight, and although Manoli snoozed a bit, I couldn’t get comfortable enough. Thank heavens for American Airlines and their plentiful assortment of TV shows and movies. I watched 4 movies before they turned on the lights and started serving breakfast. Shortly after 6am, Paris time, we landed at Charles Degalle airport.
