New York to Albuquerque
s. s. j.
Our first stop will be southwestern Pennsylvania to see Frank Lloyd Wright's Fallingwater. I had previously been to Taliesin West in Arizona (as well as visited his house in Chicago and walked through the Marin Civic Center in the Bay Area).

I've been a big fan of FLW ever since I read about him in the Hyperion series by Dan Simmons years ago.

view facing scottsdale. the house is made of rocks collected from the nearby mountain. it was a learning opportunity for the student architects so some of the walls are uneven.

this sculpture is near the orange grove -- what remains of FLW's experiment with creating a farm in the arid desert of Arizona. i was very tempted to grab an orange (no one seems to pick them).

I feel ambivalent about the pool. Does it really belong in the desert?
