Not so fast on Nashville! We couldn't leave without first going to a meat and three restaurant. Monell's came highly recommended by a local for their great fried chicken. We parked my car right in front of the restaurant (an old country house) and it was so beautiful, we started to take pictures right away. We were also a bit early so had a little time before they started serving. A tour bus passes by and we think it's a group of people that's all coming down to eat so R and I run inside. E hears, Welcome to America! [View Full Entry]

Early again! I have to say when we first thought of stopping by Graceland, we thought it would be a cheesy tour but felt that since it was on our way, we might as well visit. This year is actually the 30th anniversary of Elvis Presley's death. Even in the Philippines, Elvis was huge and his death was widely covered by the Philippine media. Graceland was actually smaller than I thought it would be. When we got there, we realized we didn't really know much about Elvis except for some of his songs and a few of his movies. And [View Full Entry]

Unfortunately, we were off to a late start from Pennsylvania. When we got to our hotel the night before, my trunk refused to open. I had forgotten to tell R that my car key doesn't open the trunk door and that she needed to pop the trunk instead. When she tried to use the key, something got stuck and my trunk door wouldn't open (with our suitcases inside!). Luckily, my back seats pull forward and we were able to retrieve our suitcases -- although not without some difficulty since I had packed every nook and crevice of the trunk. And [View Full Entry]

view facing scottsdale. the house is made of rocks collected from the nearby mountain. it was a learning opportunity for the student architects so some of the walls are uneven.
New York to Albuquerque s. s. j.Our first stop will be southwestern Pennsylvania to see Frank Lloyd Wright's Fallingwater. I had previously been to Taliesin West in Arizona (as well as visited his house in Chicago and walked through the Marin Civic Center in the Bay Area). I've been a big fan of FLW ever since I read about him in the Hyperion series by Dan Simmons years ago. [View Full Entry]

One of the things I remember from the summit was the story of Roger Bannister and the 4-minute mile. Prior to his breaking the record, everyone thought it couldn't be done, that physically, humans were incapable of running a mile under 4 minutes. Bannister thought differently. "It is possible and I'm going to do it." On April 6, 1954, Bannister ran the mile in less than 4 minutes. By the end of the year, 37 other runners would do it. By 1955, 300 more runners would. All because one person was able to imagine a different reality. Perhaps our potential [View Full Entry]
