The main purpose of my family tackling a 12 hour drive over the weekend from Indianapolis IN to Milford PA would be originally to spoil my new born niece. I am totally excited to be a true genuine "Auntie" now. I was totally on a mission to spend the enitire limited time to loving on my baby niece, however my sister had diffrent plans. She knows I love to see new things and blog about it. She took the time to plan some simple things for me to see and do that would reveal some of Milfords and Matamoris's small town charms.
I kept stressing that I was famished after the long drive and eating was #1 on my list. She assured me I would be impressed with the wings at this small bar grill named simply
The Grill. I truly love wings but wanted a real meal to gobble down, I thought maybe my younger sister wasn't understanding my point of being severly hungry. However, I was wrong! You would be wrong to cast judgement at believing this place did not serve some real plated meals. The menu had tons of options and YES, the wings were incredible! Baby
sister was right. I would easily say those were the best wings I have ever had. The flavors were awesome, we had Parmisean and Terrayaki. I wish she could send me some wings in a care package back here in Indy. My husband indulged in a steak plate which was cooked perfectly and thats hard to do for him as he is very picky with his meat. This place had a bar, a live DJ for the night as well as pool tables to continue the fun after you enjoy your meal. The staff is hit or miss. I was grateful my sister had planned to take us there because I can't wait to go back when I visit again.
After a nights rest my brother in-law woke us up by cooking an awesome breakfeast to include vincent steak medalions, fried potatoes, eggs and fresh fruit. Unfortunatly I could only nibble on the feast because my sister and I was going out to explore the little town of Milford which included a stop at the best place for bagels in the town,
Jorgensons. The guys had a diffrent intenary of four wheeling up the moutain and fishing.
Driving
to get to the town brings the lyrics of the childhood verse of "off to grandmothers house we go, through the woods..." because you are surrounded by moutains and lots of trees. The roads go up and down and is close to a rollercoater ride in a car. The natural beauty of the woods is majestic and seeing the deer and bear crossing the roads is not uncommon. To paint a clearer picture for readers, deer literally are walking around yards and grazing on grass out inthe open without fear of humans. As tempting as the scenery is DO NOT pull off on the side of the road to go walking in the forests as most of the land is privately owned.
As we arrived in the main area of the town I admired all the older styled buildings. Jergonsens, was simple and friendly. I had a popyseed bagel with butter and cream cheese and it was delicious. Crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Alot of local teens and families were getting their morning bagels and coffee. After eating our bagels my sister proceeded to take me in and out of cute little shops. My favorite was
Fretta's and I have a sneaky suspision my sister knew I'd go crazy for it before hand.
Why? Simply because its like walking into a piece of Italy. It smells like a store in Italy and it has all the real products from Italy. I found myself saying more than once "Oh my Gosh, they have this just like in Italy". We spent a good chunck of our childhood in a little village in Italy so we would definitly know the real stuff. I had to make a hard decision of what goodies to buy as space in my Sorento was limited. I settled on a pound of real Prochuitto, Italian candies and small bottles of apricot nector juices for my kids.
Next we went to a thrift store that gives all its proceeds to charity. I spent $3.00 for 2 books and a pair of barely worn heels for my wardrobe. We stoped in at a local artists shop above the thrift store and talked about his latest techniques for his canvas art. The sign for another boutique next to the artist chop begged to be snapped in a picture. The day became very windy and my
sister assured me that we would continue to see the other wonderful things when I returned this summer. The Grey Towers is on my list with its fantastic garden grouds and I must go kayaking too. More to see and do in these two charming towns than I had time to do in a short window on this quick trip.
