The Entrance
The entrance to Heirloom Gardens This was the first sunny Saturday in Oregon for awhile now and we were excited to get out of
Portland for the afternoon.
We had a gift certificate for
Herloom Roses and thought that today would be a good day to use it. It was a short drive down to exit 278 on I-5 and about 12 miles off the main drag.
Just opening the door to the car caused the sweet smell of the roses to jump into our noses... Emma found the grassy path and we were quickly in the midst of hundreds of different varieties of roses. We eventually made it to the main greenhouse where we found two different roses that would look good in our garden. Among these, that we couldn't resist, was a rose called "little Emma"...
Next we drove 10 miles to
St. Paul... Here was the
French Prairie Strawberry Festival. There were animals for Emma to feed, a fun playground and obstacle course and yes, Strawberries.
Even ten minutes or so a big tractor would come along and bring folks to and from the Strawberry patch... Once we got there it didn't take more than a few minutes to fill our 24 oz container
Smelling The Roses
Meg and Emma smell a rose... with fresh, ripe strawberries!
We took these home and made jam, smoothies and even had a couple handfuls left over to keep.
A fun family afternoon away from Portland.

I came across your blog by accident, but really enjoyed the photos, and wish I things like strawberry festivals when I was a young child! I love Oregon and your post made me want to go back! My boyfriend and I have a community travel blog and we're always looking for photos, reviews (like of the Strawberry Festival?!), etc, to share. If you have the time, check it out at dirty-hippies.blogspot.com, or email me at dirtyhippiesblog@gmail.com. Enjoy the summer weather in OR! Heather :)
