A Nice Greeting On Our Return to the US
our plants did well with great care from Lisa - thanks! Hello again! I know it has been a long time since putting up any posting on the blog. As we are currently pretty much packed and checking off our “to do list” before heading back to Tsamaya this coming Monday, decided it was worthwhile checking in to see if I even remember how to put up a post with photos. I’m actually glad I am trying it as the software I typically used to make the collages, stated there was an update, so unfortunately, I clicked on it today and not even the basic things I used to be able to do work. Oh well, it should have made an improvement, but in this case it didn’t. Did some research and found another software to use so trying it out before we leave.
The last I made an entry we just returned from Turkey in December 2021. It seems like the time has flown by since then but we are now excited to get back to Tsamaya and the world of travel and exploration.
It will be hard to capture what we have been up to since our December but we were able to fit in quite a bit.
First, we were delighted by seeing the wonderful blooms on the plants that our friend, Lisa, took care of us while we were gone -thanks again Lisa! The first order of business was setting up the Christmas tree, getting out the numerous ornaments we have acquired over the years bringing back wonderful memories of our travels as well as family and friends. We were fortunate enough to spend our Christmas Eve and Christmas with Bob’s side of the family – some great family traditions!
In the new year we decided to take in some live theatre as there are numerous wonderful offerings in the area. A mask was still required for entry and we had to wear for the full performance, but it was well worth getting the feel of “somewhat normal” life taking in some great talent at local theatres as well as some great music by a band where we personally know one of the band members (how great is that!)
With time back here we decided to pick a project to work on the house and the in-floor heating in one of our rooms won the prize to be worked on. We have radiant heat
throughout the house, but we found out the previous year that it wasn’t working that well in one of the rooms due to the thickness of the flooring in that area. After doing some research Bob found out that we could install the tubes for the water to flow through on top of the floor and then put a new floor over that. Sounds strange, but in fact, it worked out very well and it was cold enough after we finished the project to find out that it is now working great. With finishing the floor in that room, Bob then could put the molding in as well which now finishes off another room in the house.
I decided to get some time on the sewing machine as haven’t done that in quite a few years. I started very small with making a table runner, place mats and napkins to help make our Christmas breakfast table look a little more festive. I then moved onto making a queen size quilt for our bed – wow – still not finished, but the top is pieced and will have to finish it up the next time we are back in the
Family Heirloom Ornament & Handmade Ones Too
all bring back great memories when decorating US. Bob told me I should treat myself to a new sewing machine. I typically don’t like to buy things for myself, but he convinced me and I’m so glad I did. Since being back our family has increase by two – one on the both sides of the family, so decided to make 2 baby quilts which were fun to do. Definitely like the size of those compared to the queen size!
Bob continued to work in his woodshop making a few gifts, sorting his shop and keeping out of trouble! He definitely misses his woodshop when we are on the boat, so if I ever needed to find him, I was pretty sure of where he would be as he has heat out there, a coffeemaker and a nice old, wooden chair that he finds comfortable as well. I’m just glad there isn’t a bathroom or kitchen out there so I do get to see him sometimes!
Bob and I decided that it would be a good idea to get some exercise while here as we unfortunately are not into winter sports. We used to ski, but haven’t done that in years and my ankles definitely
Santa Remembered We Were in the US!
A "Turkish style"breakfast & my festive creations don’t like ice skating. Fortunately, we have a Y just down the road from us so we can walk there. We got into a routine of going 3 days a week and with both of us going, we got into a nice routine. With not knowing a chance to get to know many since moving here, we found that one of the bonuses of going to the Y was making some new friends. One friend, Cathy, even got me into joining 2 classes so I have been going 4 days per week. It is nice to get the exercise, but also great to now know a few people here in town and a feeling of starting to belong a little more.
I’m also sharing a few photos of our lovely area. Every time we come back to the US; we are reminded of the beauty that is close by. We have wonderful waterways, mountains and lovely rolling hills. We got a chance to experience winter with all of its glory including snow blowing, shoveling, but also its beauty. Spring has been a nice time to be here as well to see the flower garden filling in, having time to
Just a Couple Family Get Togethers
with Bob's side of the family - always fun! plant a few new ones that we wanted to add to our landscaping as well as getting the lawnmower out, fixed up and working well.
I know this is a quick overview of the 5 ½ months that we have been back in the US, but besides giving a quick overview, I wanted to remind myself of putting up a blog post. With our departure for Turkey on Monday, we first plan on spending some time in the marina while work is getting done on Tsamaya. We also want to do some land travel to learn more about this fascinating country with an amazing history. Once we leave the marina on Tsamaya we will explore the coastline of Turkey and some of the Greek Islands. Will try to update as I can. All the best to everyone and enjoy your summer wherever you are!
