It's been a while!... cruisers on YouTube. We recently had a chance to spend a week aboard a sailing catamaran in the Bahamas with one of the couples "the Adventure Crews". It was awesome! Just thought I'd say hello and look forward to going back and reading about some of your experiences! Smooth sailing! Janice, I used to cut your hair quite some time ago at Heads Up in Trumansburg. Someone recently was telling me that you travel all over in your sailboat. We have found ourselves watching live aboard cruisers on YouTube. St James & St Nicholas So many fabulous images of "How Great Thou Art" in this blog that I had to post some in "Cathedrals, grand churches, mosques & places of worship" thread in the Photography Forum. Check 'em out. Gotta be my favourite blog of your split image delights! 10 stars!!!
L'hemisferic Is With your specialty of split image photos this one is a cracker...brilliant!!! I have posted it in "Architectural details" thread in the Photography Forum. Check it out.
Ancestors... I'm pleased to hear that you have had a breakthrough in your hunt for ancestors. I remember early on in my hunt, having a knight as an ancestor was a big deal. Recently my travels have been to where my ancestors came from, with my blogs from last August and September to Scotland and Sweden being an example. I found that once you can find an ancestor through Google, you are provided links to many ancestry websites. I found geni.com to be the best as it has documentation like church records, legal documents, etc. And it provides the names of the parents and children, so you can go up and down the tree. I had so many I have had to cull anyone not in the direct bloodline like aunts/uncles. At this moment I have 21,485 direct ancestors going back to a Welsh ancestor born in 40 BC; a Swedish/Norwegian ancestor going back 240 AD, and the Arab general who conquered the Iberian peninsula., etc. .Good luck in your search!
Yes, definitely exciting to get new details it really is wonderful to get a breakthough - finding even new countries to search was a wonder - looking forward to doing some of my own travels to places of my ancestors - have enjoyed reading of yours
Spain Finally was able to get to the blog...I started it 4 or 5 times and interrupted. I pray your Thanksgiving went well and not too stressful. Mine was a very quiet as my brother in law stayed in Pa with his son who came from Florida for that week. That is great for him, but I missed his company when I went to my brother's house for turkey. All good and moving on. This marina where the Tsamaya is "resting" looks like a great location. The buildings exude beautiful history, typical of old Spain. I find the stone appealing, more so than cement or block. At any rate, I'm sure you will enjoy your stay there for the winter, and the temp will be more to your liking...probably highs in 50's, lows close to 30. At any rate, I doubt that there will be any humidity...although, heat and humidity sound pretty good right now. Most of my leaves are off the lawn, I can never get them all. Maybe I need a huge vacuum,...does Hoover make a lawn vacuum? LOL.
With cooler temps, my crows have returned and enjoying their hotdogs again. I found the deal for hotdogs at Walmart,...a full pound for $1.12. That is a steal!! I NEVER eat hotdogs and would never be tempted be this particular brand. Bill took me to Michigan to meet his soldier buddy, and Frank took us through a pig processing plant. YUCK....couldn't eat ham for years, never cozied up to bologna or hotdogs again. The one thing I do enjoy coming from those animals is bacon...not a lot, but pretty sure a BLT requires looking past what I witnessed. Funny the way the brain has so much influence on our behavior and prejudices...well, not so funny, just a fact.
As Christmas approaches, hoping you have a good time with family and friends. Don't stress, that is not what the season is supposed to be even tho most ignore that. As you prep for your departure, may you find peace and calmness so you can enjoy the process. What is your tentative day of departure? Sorry for the late response,...I will NEVER ignore your blogs... and oh yes...those jellyfish look menacing. Take care and stay well, sending love and hugs and Merry Christmas. Cyndie
Wow! Spain One of these days hope to get to Spain. You are constantly on "an adventure"! That is wonderful. Be well. We are eating leftover turkey and its still yummy!
Marina @ Rocella Ionica Thanks for all the stories about your time in Italy. Mariana looks very well fortified. High waves? Love the blog! Safe journey, miss u2.
great to hear from you! We think of our time together in Stuart so many times as well as when you visited us at St. Katherine's Dock - hope both of you are doing well - definitely have had wonderful times (and eats!) with you both!
thanks! great to hear from you! Just the other day we were talking and thought about you two and wondered where you are, how you are doing and also how are the book sales going? I have a HS friend that is an author and guess that got us thinking - gee, we actually know a couple of authors personally now. Funny what things can trigger various memories and of course it came back to Trinidad and meeting you and others there. Nice that you are still following along and that your names pop up at times
really old stuff Dear Friends,
This blog contained some very, very old stuff...not often you see remnants of BC timing. With all of the museums, cathedrals, castles, etc that you have entered, photographed, and blogged about, do they all run together eventually? Really interesting, but the history of hospital care caught my attention. Two patients to a bed? heat for the upper echelon? I guess there has always been a separation between "classes"...even today. I am amazed at the fact that the hospital was attacked in two different wars or uprisings, and it survived. That makes me wonder if it is the poor armaments or better builders. Probably the fact that man has chosen to up the game in destruction and weapons...sad. I did enjoy the pictures and believing that mathematically speaking, the arches that are so prevalent is because they are the strongest shape as the blocks fortify each other.
From home,...we are in a stalled high pressure right now and getting 80's and higher, with no rain. That brings on different weeds of course,...but when I mow, it is a cloud of dust and a hi ho Silver. Followed by about 3 hours of sneezing. I tried a mask, however my glasses fog up and I run into fences and trees. Not cool. So,..why not wear goggles? Because I am already creepy looking without looking like I am cutting toxic lawn. A lot of trees have suffered from the early warm up followed by a brutal freeze. I have seen it before, but the apples and grapes are going to take a hit. Too bad, but regardless of what some says...you have no control over Mother Nature,...it is a crap shoot. That is why I. believe farmers are the biggest risk takers in the world.
Well, done babbling on, have a great day, or night,...and keep enjoying the world with Tsamaya. hugs,...cyndie
Looking forward to your new year of sailing!!! Perhaps when you return the cat will be waiting for you! And thanks for the memories of a day of sailing, swimming, and eating on a boat off the Turkish Coast! Linda and I did the same on 3 May 1992, hosted by the Turkish Ministry of Defense.
Glad you made it home safe and sound. Truly enjoyed reading about your trips and all the interesting things you saw and did. A belated Happy Birthday to both of you! It was interesting to discover that Bob's b'day is the same as my mothers! Also have an aunt on the 24th and another aunt on the 25th as well. Cluster celebration! Amy asked me to tell you hello the next time I wrote, so..hello!
Always enjoy reading your blogs. Love the history you give for each area and enjoy your personal commentary. I am assuming that by now you are back in the US. Have a wonderful Fall and Winter "rest".
Your summer... I have enjoyed reading about your house/pet sitting all around the UK. I'm sorry to hear about all the problems with the boat when you got back. At least you were in the right place to get everything fixed. So next year to head west. You will definitely need everything in working order to cross the Atlantic! I look forward to reading those blogs.
thanks for your comments really enjoy your comments - sorry I don't do the same very often on yours, but whenever we are away our wifi is not the best so when I do hunt down good connections I seem to forget to get back to doing these. I have definitely enjoyed your postings! Our goal next season is to southern Spain and then decide if we cross the pond that winter or wait another year and enjoy the Med for 1 more season - time will tell!
Like so many others we love to travel and we love to sail so cruising makes a lot of sense. Janice has retired from Cornell as a business manager and Bob has retired from South Seneca school district as the high school principal. It's time to sell the house, get rid of whatever doesn't fit on our 40 foot Caliber LRC named Tsamaya (this means Travel Well in Setswana) and set off to see the world. Our reasons for publishing this blog is twofold, first to keep in touch with our friends and family and secondly to share our experiences. If you would like to receive notification when we have added ... full info
