Also access to the Maid of the Mist tour boat ride. Niagara Falls!!!! I was so nervous driving through the cities, worrying about tolls, somebody honked at me? WHY? What did I do? That was my lane I was in right? At least it's been raining all day. I threatened myself with driving right through and not seeing the falls. Absolutely not possible. I overcame all of my fears, pushed other peoples perception of me to the side, gripped the steering wheel with both hands and forged on. I have Oregon license plate people...give me a break.
I parked, bundled up in a raincoat, baseball cap to protect my glasses from the rain, wore shorts and flip flops. Once I got closer to the falls, I saw many people in the same outfit as me. It's a Niagara thing, be prepared to get soaked! I could see the mist hoovering over the area and groups of people in blue plastic raincoats walking in the same direction so I knew I was on the right track. My first sighting of water and I giggled...it was just the river, no falls. The air was fresh, the temperature was warm (low 80's), and while there were lots of people, nobody was ever "in my

From USA looking at Canada. way", or "blocked my view". There are many statues, navigation signage so a person knows where to go, most concession stands were closed because who is going to buy lemonade or ice cream on a day like this? Finally, I wove myself around the beds of plants, the mommies & daddies situating their children in strollers so they don't get wet, and the Indian bombshell women posing for their selfies and there it is...The Falls.
Breathtakingly large. A fine mist in the air that feels clean and refreshing. The amount of water I see falling over the edge as I stand right next to it is mind boggling. The signs read names for all the sections of the falls. The American Falls, Bridal Veil (total 75,750 gallons per second), The Horseshoe (681,750 gallons per second). Isn't it all just Niagara Falls? I walked along the paved path next to the water, again not overly populated but it is the end of the season on a rainy day. There is an organized group of Latin children singing a beautiful song. They are all so adorable! It adds to the excitement of the moment.
I walked a path that went

Looking North at the Rainbow International Bridge. That is the bridge that connects CA & US at the falls. over the river to a lookout point to see the classic Horseshoe Falls. I just stood there watching. The mist went so high up into the sky it just blended in with the clouds. The roar of the water is all I could hear. I walked every path, leaned over every edge, and took so many pictures! Sadly, I did not take my camera due to the moisture, but my phone takes pretty good pictures. I decided not to ride Maiden of the Mist boat ride nor did I do the Cave of Winds. I feel satisfied with what I did see and how close I got. I still had two hours of driving ahead of me to get to Fort Drum Army base plus set up my camp in the rain and make dinner. Some days I just want a pizza and a hotel room.
