New York May 18th Day 9. Having done pretty much all our sight seeing that we wanted to do yesterday with our massive bags on our backs were pretty tired. When I mean pretty tired I mean we got to our hotel at 6. Got into the room and I went for a shower and rich was already asleep in bed. I followed shortly after and we both gained a much needed snooze of 15hrs. The thing was we had a double bed each !! No single bunk in a room of 12 lads snoring in harmony or a fight for the larger sofa. We new where we stood with these beds and it's hard to comprehend how much we appreciated a decent bed. Either way we shouldn't get used to it as another 11weeks of snoring harmonies to endure. I don't really mind the snoring as I'm a heavy sleeper and infact lead snorer in the choir. All that was left to do in NYC was to hit times square for a bit of window shopping (we can't afford much in NYC).We had the choice to get the shuttle service from the hotel for $7 each or the public bus
a short walk away for $2. Being very tight and money conscious we braved it with the locals. Walking up this hill we get beeped at from behind and no it wasn't because we were horrendously good looking but it was our bus. Apparently in New Jersey bus stops are not needed. This small battered bus stopped next to us, the driver opened the door with a make shift manual lever and we hopped in. We tried to pay, he ushered us in and said pay at the end. Since when did buses let you on and you pay when you get to your destination. Seemed a bit cash in hand and then pocket some for Mr Bus driver. Either way we got there none the worse. Instead of Sticking to our stable diet of subway one day and McDonalds the next, we filled up on pizza on a corner somewhere. So I got my pizza and put my ketchup on and rich got his pizza and covered it in extra Parmesan cheese or what we thought we ketchup and cheese. It was in fact hot sauce on mine and garlic granules on riches. Anyone that knows me will know watching me try and eat it was pretty historical and I was sweating through cloth for a good amount of time. Rich on the other hand just stunk for the rest of the day. Great start to the morning. If we hadn't of been walking 4-5miles plus every day we would be getting pretty American like ourselves (large 😊 ) Once settled we headed to central park where it was pretty hot and humid and with a lot of walking done and to do linked with riches persona of finding every tree, squirrel, duck and bit of open grass to be the most "amazing" or "fabulous" thing he had seen in his whole life it started getting old. I appreciate something cool, extraordinary and picture worthy but not every tree and squirrel that rich must have his picture taken with, and heaven forbid his hair is out of place we have to start the whole show again. He wonders why I get irritated. So we got pictures of all the main bits and it really is a treasured place in New York where it can give you a bit of peace. Providing you go alone and not with a hyper labradoodle. We headed to Grand Central Station as Rich had not been there before. It was large just like on the movies but Rich pointed out the fact that the structure of one bit of the station allowed you to talk facing a corner of the room to the wall and in the opposite corner you can clearly hear that person talking. I'm sure there is a perfectly good acoustic reason for this but it impressed us. We trekked around times square, did the usual touristy stuff. Get a picture with the long times square background and other various bits. Tbh we were not all that fussed about shopping as we had no money, we saw all the major touristy sights the day before so we headed back to the hotel pretty sharpish, with the only worry of where we were going to stay in Atlantic city. You would of thought we would of learnt from our book hostels/hotels in the city before we go theory because of having to stay in New Jersey instead of NYC itself. Another longer sweatier bus ride back to the hotel which was down many dodgy ally's which we refer to as rape ally, we got back to the hotel and invaded the little gift shop for chocolate and Doritos. After debating where we were going to stay in Atlantic city we decided in the red carpet inn and suites. I decision we will come to regret.
