New Jersey has really surprised me with the farming ambiance, I guess the nickname of The Garden State does indeed have something more to it than irony. Many horse farms, lots of vegetable farming, and mostly pretty trees and well kept yards in this area. Of course I'm sure the NYC metro area is different, but we'll see soon enough. On past Trenton we headed for our reservation date at the Newburgh/NYC KOA campground we rode in after a little wandering about, as Sheila didn't have it listed. Not even in the wrong spot - just no knowledge of it at all. I eventually had to resort to the old fashioned way of calling them and getting directions. At least my instincts were right, we only had a few more miles to go on the road I was expecting it to be along. Most KOAs are the same, this one did have a miniature golf course included, so after getting our tent up and everything situated, Deb and I faced off in a putting contest. All I'll say about that is I'm glad I didn't take her up on the betting offers.....

We climbed aboard the tour bus for our $99 dollar tour of NYC this morning. Bob, our driver, looked absolutely thrilled to be there, and Mitch, our tour guide, was a great guy. Born in the Bronx, he had the perfect accent and attitude to make this a great time. We rode in using the special bus lanes, through the nasty rush hour traffic in which, as Mitch pointed out, the vast majority of the vehicles had one occupant. We are a stupid nation that way. I wont' bore you with details of NYC, but we did take the ferry to Lady Liberty, rode past Ground Zero ( now under construction ) saw the Battery, had free time on South Port docks, up to the view at the Empire State Building, ate some of the best cheesecake you'll ever get anywhere. The bus ride back was in the traffic again, i can only imagine the fun of trying to ride Bear in that mess. When we returned, Deb grabbed her stuff and I gave her a ride to her hotel. She wanted to see the final episode of "The Bachelorette". I returned to the KOA for the night.

I took a bit longer packing up camp then I had expected, so I was 45 minutes late picking up Deb at her hotel. Poor girl waited forlornly on the curb for me when she could have had a lot of extra sleep. Oops. At least she had a good attitude about it. We aimed the bike northeast, and rolled through the New England countryside of Connecticut and Rhode Island and on into Massachusetts and on to Cape Cod. Deb had made reservations at a B/B on Nantucket, so she bought a ferry ticket and waved goodbye for two to three days. I continued on around Boston, and into New Hampshire planning on picking up the tires from Shirley‘s place after a little legwork finding someone to change them out for me. Now for the bad news. I got a phone call from my dad, who informed me that there were two tires sitting on his front porch in Annapolis MD. Argh. I called Southwest Moto TIres, who called FedEx. The guy at the tire place emailed me a new shipping label, I forwarded it to my dad, who put it on the tire package and took
them to Kinko’s/FedEx for shipping. Dad then called me to let me know that it was an overnight shipping, so I could expect the tires to show up between 8 and 10:30 at Shirley’s. Not so bad as I thought. I got a deal on a La Quinta from another of those hotel discount books, and after a quick dip in the pool, headed for bed in New Hampshire.
