Big Apple Hostel
My Hostel with resident police car outside, The Journey Was great, love Virgin Atlantic, everyone should fly with them. Got a free upgrade and we even had our own beautician on board, movies were great and food lush- looking forward to flying with them again unfortunately it wont be till India but I've got the memories
Got a shuttle to the Hostel, Hostel location is top notch, we are just off Times Square and while the rooms are small, they have loads of character. There are 3 girls in my room who are all really nice and just finished working in a summer camp and we all leave on Tuesday.
Absolutely shattered due to Jet Lag so get an early night
Day 2 Got Up at Stupid O’clock due to Jet lag but decided to make the most of it and went to Central Park- frustrated when ended up at the Harlem end of the park and not the Times Square side for the 4th Time, luckily superman came to the rescue well a guy in a superman t shirt and delivered me to safety, of course to fit to the American stereotype the man is a struggling actor who walks dogs on
the side, he says it to get him into character though I’m unsure how many dog walker roles there are out there, but hey imp not in the business
Went to Madison Square Garden and did the tour, its good to see and looks massive especially if there isn’t any one inside, plus got to see in the New York Rangers and New York Knicks dressing room unfortunately no one inside them but hey I can dream
Famous Person Watch: Saw Lucy Lui filming just by central park - ooh look at me the celeb watcher
My Feet Hurt
Day 3 Met my big apple greeter Jane, typical Jewish new Yorker that you would expect to find on a sitcom who 3 thirds Irish and 1 3rd Swiss (that is what she said) who bought me on the Staten Island Ferry and to the national federal reserve, gold gold everywhere I looked, The Ground Zero site and all around the Financial district Area showing me many things I would of missed and some beautiful pieces of art all around the city, it was a great day and totally free which is even better
Went
New York at Night
Taken from Top of THe Rock to the New York Public Library to book Yankee tickets (struggling with that) and had to get a New York library card in which I look like some kind of drug addict, It is officially the worse photo ever
Off to Top Of the Rock for Views of Manhattan- absolutely beautiful and in my opinion better views than the empire state building, mainly because if you want to see the New York skyline the empire state building is a major part of it plus it doesn’t have glass but see through Perspex time glass - def recommend it
My Feet Still Hurt
Day 4 Spent the morning in Central Park Just people watching and bizarrely burnt the bottom part of my right foot in the design of a dolphin, finally managed to get Yankee Tickets, off tomorrow, really looking forward to it especially since I watched a short game in central park meaning that I can of understand the rules.
I now rule the subway, my illogical brain is totally on the same wavelength as the subway, meaning I can easily get around without the fear of getting lost (I learnt my lesson from
the Central Park Incident)
In the evening a few of us from the hostel just went round Times Square- I love it, the lights the atmosphere the amount of people- it has got me so excited for Las Vegas - Bring out those lights
Second famous person alert: some black rapper guy heading into good morning America, have no idea who he is but loads of people getting autographs and photos, unfortunately I didn’t have my camera at this point so we cant play a game of "who is the famous person" but alas opportunity lost
Woken up at 3am by room mates, we have a leak in our room which is dripping down into the bunk above me, I didn’t realise as was scrunched up at the other end so had to move all our stuff and get new sheets, the hostel is totally full so cant move rooms so was given a fold up bed that’s obviously meant for a child as my feet dangle off the end by quite a bit, as there isn’t enough for 2 fold one beds in the room we had to put one alongside the other bunk bed and
the three of us had to sleep across them, luckily I get on with the girls so was no great stress, the joys of travelling hey
Day 5 Go Go Yankees, Great Day today, the stadium is amazing and brimming with atmosphere and extremely patriotic, had to sing some kind of I love America song/national anthem 4 times throughout the game. Managed to be sitting in the wrong Seat for the 1st half of the Game so was sitting with the regular Yankee goers who sure do love them and for the second half of the game I was with a bit more subdued bunch but loud all the same. The Yankees lost (if I counted correctly which is very doubtful) 2-8 to the Tampa bay devil rays, which apparently is a pure result as they aren’t a great team but everyone was still in great spirits at the end of the game.
Baseball is an all day thing, the game lasted 9 innings so was about 5 hours including subway there and back, but it was a great thing to see
Day 6 Last day in NYC, before heading to Toronto early tomorrow so
Brooklyn Bridge
View of Manhatten from the Bridge walked over the Brooklyn Bridge early this morning it was a beautiful day so I even walked back. Brooklyn is lovely and a stark difference to Manhattan even though its so close, beautiful townhouses and no sky scrapers, if I was to live in New York I would choose Brooklyn though New Yorkers think imp crazy when I say this, having a lazy afternoon and pack and stuff so imp ready for my long train journey tomorrow.
Hey they plastered up the hole in the ceiling today so I get my bed back, it had got massive. Yay for my own bed.
Famous Person Watch: (Yes another one, imp obviously a magnet for them, this one is for you Katie) Roger Federa on his way to the US open.
New York was great but looking forward to the next place on the map, I know I didn’t do as many tourists things but as this is my second time here I didn’t feel the need to and wouldn’t spend it any other way if I was to do it again.
Hope all is good with everyone and chat again soon
Madison Square Garden,
Actual Scales that the legend Muhammad Ali weigh in on for his fight with Joe Frazier
