A lovely sunny day was ideal for going up the Empire State Building, so we did. We were consequently rewarded with wonderful views of the whole of New York City and beyond.

The rest of the time was spent taking bus tours of Downtown Manhattan by day and night. The informative and amusing guides increased our knowledge of the city no end.

Between the tours we had an excellent oven baked pizza at John’s in the Theater District adjacent to Times Square. The restaurant was situated in a lovely converted former church. We were surprised to see that The History Boys by Alan Bennet was playing as we had seen that in Birmingham just before we left. We also visited the impressive Grand Central Station.
