After taking New Year's Day off and resting we decided to tour the city again. We headed out and it was lightly snowing and cold but probably around 33 degrees, not too bad. We layered our clothing this time because the tour bus gets really cold. We caught the Gray Line bus near Ground Zero about 6 blocks from the apartment. We enjoyed the tour especially with the heater. We learned a lot about China town and different tenement areas on the East side. We visited the Waldorf Astoria Hotel. It was incredibly nice and we may stay there one day.
After the hotel visit we decided to walk to Grand Central Station. It was only 6 or so blocks but man was it cold. I had to wrap my scarf around my head just to be able to fight the wind. There's a wind advisory in the northeast and it's really kicking. We visited Grand Central Station and decided to eat lunch. They have a dining area with a lot of food. We decided to go for pizza ..again. It was okay. We are ready for some southern food for sure.
Next we decided to walk to Central
Park. Once we headed that way we saw the Gray Line bus and jumped on. By now we are totally taking advantage of any heat available. We got off the bus at Central Park and took a nice walk in the park. There were many people in the park, even with the weather. The ice skaters were enjoying themselves. We took a few pics and I bought a hot apple cider. Then we headed out for the indoors.
The park was fun but we'd had a day so far. We decided to head back to our side of town - Tribeca. We caught the subway. We were a bit confused because this was a new subway line and we really had to read the map. We took the N train back to City Hall area. We walked from City Hall to our street. Once we were close to home we were relieved. We headed to Reade Pub for a good hamburger and fries. They really have great food there. The same musician was playing again. We stayed and listened to him play till after midnight. Again it was a fun night and we only had one block to walk
home. Thank God because it had to have been 20 below with the wind chill.
Sunday we woke up around 9am and started cleaning and packing to get ready for our journey to DC. We took time to have brunch down the street at Edward's Restaurant. It wasn't bad but a little pricey at $38. After brunch we went back to the apartment to pack up and clean up. My friend's place was absolutely amazing. It was a loft apartment in Tribeca. We had every luxury you could want and we felt very safe during our stay in NYC. Thanks Jeff - we owe you!
We headed out on the subway to Penn Station. Once we arrived we found an Amtrak ticket booth and purchased 2 tickets for DC on the 5:05pm train. We decided to eat again at TGI Fridays while we waited for the train. We finally boarded on track 15W and off we went. We had a little trouble finding a seat together so we headed to the back of the train. People are so rude because they take up 2 seats for just one person. It really ticks you off. Oh well, we found
a double seater and got comfy. Amtrak doesn't have wireless Internet so we have to wait till the hotel to upload this blog and our pics.
