Arrived in NYC on Wednesday evening. Amtrak arrived on time and we grabbed a car from Penn Station. We had a little disagreement with the driver. He was not a taxi driver but a town car service. When we got in the car I asked if he would charge us taxi cab rates and he said he would. Well when we arrived at our destination he tried to scam us for $120. Keith and I both refused to pay. I even stopped some locals to ask them if we were right. They agreed and said $50 max. It was about a 35-40 minute ride from Penn Station. He saw us coming and was just trying to put it to us. We ended up paying $80 bucks and made him pop the truck for our bags. I was pissed about the $80 but what can you do.
Moving on we arrived at our destination on Duane Street and Greenwich. We're staying in the Tribeca area just a few blocks from Ground Zero. We ventured out for a bit a few blocks and found a nice pub - Reade Pub and Grill. We had a few drinks and ate a snack. We
went to the apartment to get a good night's rest. The apartment is amazing and everything we could imagine. The neighborhood is wonderful too. We woke up early and headed out for the city tour. It was snowing and 33 degrees F. Keith and I are really getting into this cold weather...lol So we ended up in the subway station and found our way to Time Square. We bought tickets to the Gray Line tour. It was $54 each and will take us for 2 days on 3 different tours. It was a cold, wet, snowy day but we made the best of it. We took the bus from Time Square to Ground Zero and then got off to do a little walking. We stopped in a deli to eat. Keith had beef panini and I had chicken noodle soup. I know, go all the way to NY and have soup. It's cold and I don't want to get sick!
We toured for the rest of the day taking the Staten Island Ferry to see the Statue of Liberty and walking over to Pier 17. After that we just rode the bus back to Times Square. The day was
passing and the city was getting very busy with all the people heading to Times Square. We exited the bus on 8th Avenue right next to Times Square. There were crowds of people and NYCPD everywhere. We decided to wade through the crowd for a while. Once we had enough we took off for the subway. We passed probably 100 police officers. We were probably the safest couple in the world last night.
We ended up at the same pub again. We stayed for a few and then decided to go buy groceries for New Year's day's dinner. I knew everything would be closed and wanted to cook black-eyed peas and cabbage for Keith. We freshed up and then went back out to the pub. The place was more crowded and there was a musician playing great music. We sat at a table in front of a family from New Jersey. Over the course of the night we all danced, sang and drank. The family was so fun and it was great to see. Keith and I are so blessed to have family and friends that are fun. So we rang in the new year and stayed a few
more hours. After we headed to the apartment because we were exhuasted.
Today we slept in till almost 1pm. We couldn't believe it! I cooked all day and did laundry while Keith slept. Poor guy, I've drug him all over the country. We're planning to stay in this evening and we'll hit the tours again tomorrow. After that - who knows! Still having fun and still have money......
