There's magic in the Manhattan air. All it takes to activate is a wish spoken aloud and *poooof* it materializes. (By the way, we're spelling the American way from now on). Take yesterday for instance. Dave was moping around the city, feeling a bit dejected in his hostel waaaay up town. Over take-out Starbucks coffees and a stroll through the East Village he made it clear he just needed one simple life addition to feel at home .... SPORT.
Lo and behold, we arrived home to discover my fantastic flatmate Scott had scored us 4 free MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL tickets to see the Yankees play the Chicago Cubs at the brand new Yankee stadium. Woo-hoo!!! "Prime seats in right field", says Dave. (This sports talk means zilch to me, but we were 6 rows back from the grassy part where the men in stripey leggings play with balls).
Even better for Dave, once we arrived home all Yankeed out, Keri and Scott invited him to move out of his shifty 8-bed hostel room and into their apartment. He is now a very happy guy.
Oh, and I have scored a job interview at a swanky little architecture firm
in Soho (only New York's quirkiest and cutest area to work). The position was unadvertised and dependent on the firm winning a particular project, but hey, the Manhattan magic seems to be in fine form these days.
