King Arthurâs Flour Company Bakerâs Store
King Arthurâs Flour Company Bakerâs Store in Norwich, Vermont where we stopped and bought some goodies. Sunday, 21 June (Littleton KOA to Herkimer KOA): (Sorry for the "Coopestown", but there was no Herkimer or close place)
Before we left Littleton, we discovered a major discrepancy between the route to Herkimer KOA that the GPS had set up and the one I did using Google Map. I’d noted the difference in routes, but the distance difference of 100 miles was a bit of a surprise. We ended up using the shorter route from Google and let the GPS adjust as we went. Before leaving, we stopped by the well known Littleton Coin Company, but they were closed on Sunday. I’d made a list of interesting places we might like to see along the way to Herkimer, and even though our route changed, we ended up going near two of them. Pompanoosuc Mills was our first stop, but they didn’t open until noon or so, so we continue on. We did however stop at King Arthur’s Flour Company in Norwich, Vermont. They offered baking classes, even on Sunday, but at $85 each, we passed. We spent some time browsing in their bake shop/store and although we didn’t buy any of their excellent baking utensils, we couldn’t resist sandwiches, coffee,
Herkimer Chipmunk
Again, chipmunks all over the place. and a Danish. I had a turkey and cranberry sandwich and Manoli had an egg salad one. Both were made with their bread and were delicious, as was the Danish. The rest of the trip was pretty much uneventful, with fewer and fewer bikers, but on small roads and a lot of 35 and 45 mph stretches. Herkimer KOA is on one side of the road (Route 28) next to a nice, but very swift river, and their Herkimer Diamond mine (so to speak) is straight across the road. Again, they gave us a fairly distant Kabin from the office and pool, so we’ve decided that they think because we don’t have kids with us that we don’t want to be near the families, which are usually located near the office, pool, and game room. Either that, or they try to keep those sites for families. After Manoli checked out the river, and added to her ever-growing rock collection, we walked across to the diamond mine’s gift shop. They had some awesome looking Herkimer Diamonds in all sizes, and a large selection of other stones and gems. Herkimer Diamonds are not actually diamonds, but double-ended, clear quartz crystals only found
Manoli Rockhounding
Manoli looking for âinterestingâ rocks near the river. in this area. We (I?) can hardly wait to start rock hounding tomorrow. Afterwards, we drove into Herkimer for dinner and ended up renting another DVD, “Thin Ice” with Tom Selleck, then ate dinner at the Albany Street Café. I had an excellent plate of stuffed eggplant parmesan with angel hair pasta and marinara sauce, and Manoli had a very good Cranberry and Walnut Salad. The prices were pretty reasonable, although the service left a little to be desired. Well, tomorrow we hammer away at rocks looking for the elusive Herkimer Diamond.

Mom's Picking Rocks Again!
I see Mom's at it again! Looking for "unusual" rocks to take back home with her. Just promise me you won't leave Dad behind if you find a beautiful one and you have no more room in the car :) Love ya Mom!
