Well we wanted hot and sunny and we got hot and sunny. We started out our week with a short ride and then we took the tram up to the Sandia Crest Ski area. It was a 2.7 mile cable car ride up the mountain. What a wonderful view and just a great way to see the area as we just arrive. Going up wasn't bad going down is just a bit different for me as I am just not a fan of the heights, LOL...Day two started out again on the Harley and we started to go towards the mountain and found a dirt road. As we were on the side of the road a nice gentlemen came along and told us about a couple of nice rides we should take. We took his advice and what cool rides they were. We first went to the Jemes Reservation and Recreation Area about 50 miles west from camp. Hwy 4 took us on a great ride through the hills and mountainside, over to Los Alamos and then on to Santa Fe. On this ride you see forest, red rock, water streams, lakes, and you go up and down the mountains through
the passes. Although the mountains are not as big and bold as Colorado they bring a slightly different beauty to your eyes. We ran into a little rain along the way so we found a nice little bar, had a beer or two and a slight snack before heading home. On day three the dirt road we found on day one was in the back of our minds so we loaded up the Razor and took it up the 9 mile road to the top of the mountain, this turned out to be very fun. Here we end up finding The Sandia Crest House which is another look out and just a gorgeous ride up through the trees and mountainside. When we return towards the truck I decided to take the 4 wheeler for a ride down the road. I end up finding a off road park 5 miles down the highway. I now know what to do, get out of the drivers seat, let Kathy drive and what a blast she had. We end up the day with a winery tour that we also found while heading back to the truck. The Harley needs it's fluid change so we
kind of lost a day doing that but a necessary evil. The Harley dealer did provide Kathy and I with a shopping opportunity so we both ended up with some new Harley attire. The next Harley ride we took was a ride to the north on Hwy 14. This takes us to Tinkertown Museum and on to Madrid. Tinkertown Museum is just what it says, Mr. Ross ward wrote that while we were watching TV, he tinkered. Small little carnival and doll house type figures all over. It was well worth the three dollars to go through it. We now go on to Madrid where we visit the world famous Mineshaft Bar and Maggie's Café. The café is where the movie Wild Hogs was filmed with Tim Allen and John Travolta. Tired now we end up once again at a Casino but this time to eat. It turns out they have an awesome seafood buffet, with fresh hot crab legs, mussels, clams, fish and many other treats, We were hungry and this just fits tonight. Kathy is begging for a break so we spend the next two days vacationing her style, by the pool, in the sun, relaxing and enjoying
the days ahead. She was right we needed to chill and relax a bit. This camp ground was very convenient located 10 miles north of Albuquerque in a town called Bernilillo. The campground just off the freeway and it turns out there was a brewery/TeeKee Bar that served great sandwiches and an awesome Elk pizza. The beer was good also, freshly brewed, after much tasting Kathy finds herself a beer drinker. We now will be heading towards Cornville, Arizona with a stop at the Petrified Forest.
