Viva Las Vegas
We're at VEGAS.....!!!
But first , let's backtrack and fill in a couple of missing pieces that G forgot to add.
First morning at San, showered and now just need to get ready for the day... Get dressed, apply makeup (that's me Lisa not G) and locate the Hotel's hair dryer hanging on the back of the bathroom door, plug it in and ....nothing. Look for the power switch, turn it off then back on and still zero, zippo, nada, zilch, just smoke billowing from it.. Yay
This begs the question....what is it with Hotel hair driers?? Now, I have a perfectly good and reliable hairdressing grade v8 powered hair drier at home just waiting for my return but NOOOOO I was not allowed to bring said hair drier on my holiday by order of hubby! I had to choose between another pair of shoes to pack or the hair drier.
Clearly I chose the shoes but in hindsight...now Husbands, let me see if I can put this issue clearly into perspective for you. Our hair driers are our best friends. We can
do without most things but an unruly set of curls or a fringe that is not straight without the use of the drier is not something we can live with. Yes the Hotel has one but it is not the same. Have you ever purchased a cordless drill or power tool and found that it does not work as well as the original version. What about buying a car thinking it has a V8 engine only to discover it has a motor equivalent to a handheld mower or it's being powered by 2 mice running in their wheel. Well that is how I and I'm sure I am speaking for most women out there, feel about my drier. Hands off next time G I'm bringing it with me!!
Off to reception, wet hair in tow and request another drier. At least this one worked & my hair is sort of dried. Girls get ready for the day and after a few of us use the bathroom getting ready for our visit to Alcatraz our toilet decided to not work. I mentioned to my handy hubby that it looked like it was gonna overflow, as the water just
Welcome to Las Vegas!
Arriving at the airport kept rising and would not shut off, so what does any handy husband decide to do.... let's flush it twice more....& yep you guessed it, over the top the water flows and onto the tiled floor. A few seconds of flowing til we locate and shut off the valve & a quick call to reception that we need assistance and off we go to Alcatraz for the day leaving someone else to sort it out. I love hotels xxxx
Alcatraz was great as mentioned in previous blog, dinner, back to hotel to pack purchases ( yep more of them, shuffle here, shuffle there to fit them in the cases....not quite at 7 bags yet). Morning arose to get ready for Vegas flight, Concierge gets us a town car to fit all the luggage in for trip to airport, only it doesn't all fit in!! We have to leave the boot open & use straps to make sure luggage makes it to our destination...Hilarious. Arrive at airport & town car driver is unable to close the boot. Seems to have broken the latch. We wish him well & off we go.
Again we love the
Baggage claim area
Why not spend a few dollars while you wait? kerbside check in system, dump it all at the door & walk in straight to our gate. Flight was about 1 hour 15 mins and was good, although a little bumpy. The on board safety video package about what to do during an issue was sensational... The airlines appear to be upgrading all of their safety videos using rap or funky tunes, lyrics & dancing & it makes for enjoyable viewing. I never knew being terrorised on a flight could be such fun!
We land at airport about 1.30pm, no issues but upon heading downstairs to collect our luggage we were astounded to see Poker machines there. Girls & I wait at luggage collection, locate, collect & sort through our bags all while G pokes some change through the poker machines and wins... nothing!. Head to Taxi rank, climb in & take off. Within seconds I'm calling out to the driver as the boot flung open & my luggage fell onto the road behind us. Thankfully we had only gone a couple of meters & there were not any other cars behind us to run over it. Had we made it to the freeway & it happened,
I dread to think as it would have been the bag my hair drier would normally be in had i been allowed to bring it ( small mercies). Looks like this is the second time we have broken the taxi boot lock today.
Get out of this taxi, find another, throw bags in & got swooped by a bird. Someone said it was good luck but I thought it was getting dumped on by a bird that is apparently lucky! Hopefully I will win us a fortune when I leave the kids alone in our room, for hours or days on end, unfed & unwashed as I get lost in the process of gaming here at the Casino...not likely!!
Our room is on the 21st floor and we are the second last room. This hotel is lovely but you need a packed lunch to get back to the lifts. It's miles.......away! We could not believe how far away it is. Graham has counted how many steps it was to walk back but I will get back to you on that info as he is currently asleep. He had a big night last night. More
View from our hotel room
Poor Scarlett is about one inch too short to ride it. There were tears... details on that to come.
2.30pm we throw our bags into the room, apply sunscreen & we're off on a discovery tour of the City of Lights ( in daytime though). 3.30pm realised we had not eaten lunch so stopped at a cafe in the hotel. This place is it's own city within the walls of this Casino. You really do not need to leave as everything you could possibly need or want is here.
We finally make it to the Strip at about 4.30pm & we walked & walked & walked. There is soo much to see & do. We visited other hotels, shops & saw as much as we could until our feet could not carry us any further. We stopped at the Bellagio Hotel, watched the water display in the huge fountain at the front of it. The fountain dances to music & was a beautiful sight to see. Street performers everywhere just like Hollywood, scams & half naked women appear from nowhere.
Graham told the girls to not look down to the footpath, just stare ahead (we also heard many other parents say the same) as everywhere
Our restaurant
Huge map of America on the roof. Everything is big you go there are tickets to nightclubs being handed out that have pictures of strippers of various stages of dress & many poses not really suitable for the young to view. Most tickets are thrown on the ground & it's hard to stop the kids from viewing them. We explained to the girls that they will see a lot of things...this place is like Party Central, not to get frightened & just go with the flow.
Get back to hotel lobby about 10.30, G & Scarlett have a light dinner in one of many eateries on the ground floor. Charlize & I are too tired to eat but order a drink to share. Graham walks us to the lift, said his good nights & departs to the casino, while the three of us get lost in the many corridors on our way to our room & then spend time together until midnight when lights are turned out. Graham is still missing in action!
Approximately 1.30am Easter Sunday I hear a noise at our door. I'm still awake but in the dark. Apparently G had a lovely time in the casino....free drinks are provided while
Starting early
You have to walk through the casino to get in and out of the hotel. The girls eyes were opened wide many times! you are at the tables. Let's see how he enjoys the morning....
Happy Easter to all, although I know we are a day behind.
Enjoy the read & Chat soon

Scarlett
Dear Scarlett, I'm so proud of you for at least wanting to go on that ride it took ages to convince Jake to go on it but when we got to the top he decided it was too much. I hope that you can get onto all of the other rides. Love form Zoe
