It was a long time in coming but we had finally arrived in the city that for many is the ultimate....Viva Las Vegas (as we were driving into the city that never sleeps, that very famous Elvis song was playing over and over and over in my head...as were random flashbacks from the Hangover. Moving on. Both Pip and myself (the virgins of the group) were quite overwhelmed at the size of the casino's, mix that with thousands of people walking the streets, music, lights and a fountain synchronised with music (the Bellagio Fountain in all its glory) we knew that we had definitely arrived in Vegas baby! Oh and who could forget the passing trucks with strippers plasted to their billboards?! Yes we had definitely arrived in Vegas.
We checked into our room after soaking up the sights, which really only includes 'The Strip'. Without it there really wouldn't be all that much else happening in Vegas. Our accommodation for the next couple of nights was The Excalibur aka the giant castle. It was nice, but it was a casino and I was still dreaming of swaying in a hammock on Pacific Beach watching the sun set...
To get myself
out of my mini rutt I rose early (before Rach, can you believe it?!!) and went down to the gym and then had a little dip in the pool. I must admit that after my morning of exercise and a few treats from Whole Foods....chhh hmmmm ( thats me clearing my throat) I'm sorry but there is a very necessary pause required in this entry whilst I explain my love for Whole Foods!
Whole Foods; some would call it a supermarket, others may refer to it as a place to purchase whole foods. A place of wonder and excitement?! Nevertheless a place where we spent countless hours roaming the aisles and eating gloriously delicious food; namely roast pumpkin, oh how I've missed you! I think that's enough but if Australia picks up any chain store from the states this should be the one, no questions asked. It's genius. ...So after exercising and swimming and indulging in some wonderfully delicious food I was feeling great and ready to embrace this city.
We designated the day to Halloween costume shopping, and would you believe it, after only 30minutes the 4 of us had found a very suitable costume.
Pip- sexy maid (of
course!) Mandy- pumpkin (no explanation needed) sandra- a sultry flapper girl and me a pirates wench...i know perfect right!
We spent the evening roaming the streets, walked through casino after casino watching thousands upon thousands of people gambling their lives away, and then walked home. My favourite part of the night? Skyping Griff dog and larni, who was a cat! Nothing like a good laugh at two in the morning. Love you girls! x
Sunday was Halloween.......eeooooooww (imagine ghostly noises here) We had a jam packed day really, after enjoying another brunch at whole foods, picking up our tickets for the Lion King and swimming in the pool our day had almost dissapeared. We were off to the Lion King!! oh bless. And I can tell you it was just as fabulous the second time around...the opening scene with Rafiki, wow! I'm just not sure it had the same effect on poor old pip, who FELL ASLEEP!! Yes she actually fell asleep during the Lion King, which I might add she had never seen before! But in all honesty I do feel sorry for her, for there is nothing worse than that head bobbing, eye shutting feeling you get
when you simply cannot, no matter what you do (oh yes there was water splashing and face slapping on her part!) stay awake! A red bull fixed everything for the second half of the show and I think it's safe to say we all thoroughly enjoyed it!
After a few hours we were dressed and ready to roll. On our way out we ran into a pimpin ticket seller who gave us tickets to TAO a fairly exclusive club so we were told, that was only going to cost us $10 each, so we bought 4 tickets and were on our way.
Heavy security made poor old Mands take off her face paint and drink her hurricane before entering...but we were able to skip the line and join the 500+other people crammed in to this bass thumping complex.
A great night, I mean after all it was our first real Halloween.
I'd like to thank Vegas for a fun couple of nights and apologise to those I may have offended! After a few drinks I got quite upset that parents were walking with their children down the strip at 4 in the morning, drinking alcohol, watching strippers and
just being down right ferals!! Let's just say it may have been the teacher within me?!
Oh and to all the card flickers out there, keep on flickin
