So our tactics were to win more money than we started with, and i mean before our world trip! Ok a little adventurous especially as we were pretty much going to hit the 1 cents machines and make our gambling last as long as possible.
The drive to Vegas was basically through the desert so was very hot especially as there wasn't a cloud in the sky, that was until we reached the bright lights of Vegas, well what we could see of it through the sand storm that was positioned right over the centre. We could however see the edge of the storm so we ducked in to a factory outlet village for shelter which of course made Lisa V.happy. We did a bit of "window" shopping spending our future winnings before heading to our tin pot hotel we booked. Ok it wasn't too tin pot as we had found a great deal online and and had to settle for 3 nights in the Las Vegas Hilton!!!!
The Hotel was just off the main strip and is a real contender for the nicest hotel room of our trip. We were on the 26th floor with a view over
the mountains, just amazing. After checking out our room it was time to chance our luck on the slot machines in the hotel casino. We had a quick wander round to see what machines looked lucky and we settled on Noel Edmonds favourite "Deal or No Deal". A few goes later and we found ourselves $30 Up not bad for a 1 cent machine. We decided to put our winnings in our pocket and head out to get some food. We had ambitions of heading to the strip but was too much of a walk and was basically our plan for the whole of the next day so we settled for a McD's before retiring to our suite. Us 1 Vegas 0.
Up and refreshed after a nice breakfast in the hotel (spending our winnings) we headed to the main strip armed with our day bus pass for $5 each meaning we don't have to walk far if we consume too many margaritas or after losing all our money we can at least get back to the hotel. We headed to the far end of the strip starting with the Luxor and worked our way back to our hotel.
Each casino/hotel has a particular theme for example the Luxor is basically a big pyramid with an egyptian theme, New York New York speaks for itself etc. We decided to basically have a look through each casino and leave our gambling for the evening apart from a little flutter in the Bellagio where we of course lost but $2 well spent and after consuming a few 99Cents Margaritas from Bills gambling hall we didn't realy trust our judgement. A few hours and a hot dog later we were back at the hotel where we got showered and all dressed up for our big night out in Vegas. It started with a treat, an all you can eat buffet in the hotel which being the Hilton was amazing as was the size of some of the people taking advantage of the all you can eat part of the buffet. The best thing about it was it was all you can drink as well which was a bonus but we didn't realy drink too much as our bellys were full of buffet and margartis from earlier in the day. With much gambling to be done we didn't want to be too wasted!
We decided on a $20 limit each, not much but enough to make a bit or not lose much which ever way you look at it, and headed to New York New York which we decided had the best atmosphere to start the night off. Aftere about 20 mins we weren't having much luck so decided to get some more margaritas and head to the Bellagio to watch the free water display ala "Oceans 11" which was realy impressive and a must see for anyone visiting Vegas. We then sat for a while star spotting (didn't see any) and admiring all the lights from the casinos which are truly amazing at night before looking around for another casino to take our money and next door looked good enough so it was "Monte Carlo or bust" (the casino was Monte Carlo......funny i know). Anyway we were true to our word and gave the casino the rest of our money apart from the $10 of Lisas winnings so at 1.00am we headed back and crashed at our hotel. Us 1 Vegas 1
Another good breakfast sorted us out in the morning and i was keen to put at least $1
in 1 machine to try and win back some of our lost $$$ from the night before. Low and behold i turned my $1 into $9 on my first go which of course meant we had to continue playing as our luck was obviously in, and it was. In about 30 mins we were $45 dollars up which we couldn't quite believe, we resisted temptation to put the lot on red or black and proudly stuffed it in our back pocket knowing we would leave Vegas quids in. Us 2 Vegas 1
We spent the rest of the day basking in the 90F heat by the hotel pool which was realy luxurious.........now this is flashpacking!
Resisting temptation to just put that $1 in and losing the lot we spent the evening just chilling watching TV getting a good night sleep before continuing the road trip early the next day.......next stop Flagstaff and the Grand Canyon!
