Red Canyon and Grand Canyon
Red Canyon and Grand Canyon This blog covers the 17th and 18th Jan
No fear or loathing in Las vegas i just wanted to use the tittle after that crazy messed up film with Johhny depp, thats such a funny film, Anyways i briefly woke up at 8 or 9am because the woman in the apartment above was so noisy and i fell back to sleep and woke up just after 10 am.
Tim was up and on the internet and asked what i had wanted to do and he had discussed possibly hiking in red Canyon last night and so i asked if we could go to the the Red Rock Canyon, it was not far out of Vegas and as we drove along Tim explained more about Howard Hughes influence on Vegas. When we got to red Rock Canyon it was breath taking and hard to believe this was minutes away from Vegas.
Tim had a pass to get into this national park and so no fee's to pay and we then parked up and the were three trails we could take and Tim suggested a strenuous hike that would give us some good views, the hike was a 5 mile

Red Canyon and Grand Canyon round trip and was straight up and was called the Turtle's head peak circuit. I started to march on from Tim and he took his own time and i sped off as i like a challenge, i took harder root than Tim and i am sure i will feel it tomorrow...hehe
I took piccys as i went up as the views were amazing and some of the way up i found a newish looking Nalgene water bottle and frozen water in it and so it must have been left over night, i picked it up as these bottles are not cheap to buy and of good quality. i got to the top in 1hr 10 mins and tim followed up in 1 hr 30 mins, the was an old army ammo tin at the top and inside was a card from a previous couchsurfer which was cool and a pen and journal that you could write in to say you had been there, i took in the views and then finally we decided to head down as the sun was starting to climb down and it was getting colder, i flew down and had to wait about 30 mins

Red Canyon and Grand Canyon at the car for Tim.
We then had a scenic drive through the rest of the park and headed back to tims were i washed up and changed and then we both had dinner and chatted some more and then i did a quick piece to Tim's camcorder as he is doing a couchsurfers video collage.
Later i got my gear together and we headed for my next bus via a trip to the south of the strip and included the Luxor and then Tim dropped me off at the Vegas airport bus terminus and i got a minibus that went via Laughlin and then an hour and a half at the waiting room at Kingman Arizona station and a clock change as Arizona does not have light saving.
No proper sleep on the train and then i got off and snow and freezing temps greeted me in Flagstaf and my next couchsurfing host Deb was there and she met me and took me for breakfast and then drove me to her place and i met her husband Rob. Deb then took me to her house and i met her two cats and her dog Lucy and Deb

Red Canyon and Grand Canyon had go me some Grand Canyon literature and some little gifts which was cool and then she let me borrow her car and i spent most of the day driving round the canyon and at first it was daunting diving on the other side and left hand drive, but i nailed it. I went a full circuit around the canyon and visted ruins and museums and took loads of pics and then i decided to try and trek down into the canyon and i went part way down a trail in the canyon upto a point were it was unsafe to go further because of the ice and proximty to the edge. I headed back up and decided id done the canyon to death and headed back to Deb's.
I got back to Deb's and she cooked some veggie pasta which was nice and i checked my email and stuff and Deb had washed and tryed some of my stuff which was cool, the Grand Canyon is breath taking and worth the visit, i got in for free as Deb's car has a permit. We should be heading to Phoneix tomorrow, The Grand Canyon is massive and awesome and deffinetly
