Wednesday, October 8th - Drive to West Glacier, MT. Reservations @ Great Northern Whitewater Raft & Resort, 12127 US Highway 2 East, West Glacier, MT, Phone = 800-735-7897. Hiked near Lake McDonald, the Avalanche Lake trail, then along McDonald Creek.
Thursday, October 9th - Drove up Going to the Sun road & hiked the Hidden Lake trail in snow & ice. Then hiked Apgar Lookout trail. Motel - Glacier Highlands resort in West Glacier.
Friday, October 10th - Drove to Two Medicine, too icy to hike, then to St. Mary Visitor Center where we decided to go on to Canada and Waterton Lakes Park. Hiked/walked the Prince of Wales trail and around the lake. Motel - The Crandell Mountain Lodge.
Saturday, October 11th - Attempted hike to Bertha Falls but too snowy. Drove back to Many Glacier, hiked around Swiftcurrent Lake then did Appekunny Falls trail. Drove on to St. Mary. Motel - Red Eagle Motel - interesting place. Frozen pipes on second floor, two fuzzy TV stations.
Sunday, October 12th - From St. Mary drove up GTTS Rd. and hiked from the Sun Point Nature trail on by Baring Falls, St. Mary Falls, then to Virginia Falls (icy) then back to Sun Point. Drove to East Glacier looking for motel, none available, on to Izaak Walton Lodge in Essex, directed to Glacier Haven Inn for the night. Dinner at Izaak Walton Inn.
Monday, October 13th -Up and breakfast at Izaak Walton Inn then hiked the Scalplock Lookout trail. Drove back to Kalispell area. Motel - Super 8 in Columbia Falls.
Tuesday, October 14th - Depart Kalispell on Delta, Arrive Salt Lake City, Depart Salt Lake City, Arrive Atlanta; Depart Atlanta Delta, Arrive Greenville.
Anne and I started our hiking trips back in 2001 and have managed to get two or three trips in each year since. Most of the trips were part of our quest to hike in all of the US National Parks, a quest we completed in 2015 with our trip to Alaska and the Gates of the Arctic and Kobuk Valley parks. At that time there were 59 parks. Since 2015 we have revisited some of our favorite areas and those have been blogged as well. Additionally, along the way we’ve taken a couple of trips to Canada where we hiked in most, if not all, of the Canadian National Parks in the Rocky Mountains. And then ... full info
