Montana and more Montana!
Published: July 16th 2011North America » United States » Montana » KalispellAfter backpacking 6 miles into the desolate northwest corner of Glacier NP we found ourselves at Akokala Lake. It was beautiful and all was right with the world. Except for the mosquitos, i could have done without them. We woke at 5am and decided to come on down the mountain. A wonderful early morning hike, with no bears. From there we took the Going-to-the-Sun-Road thru Glacier and wow. Waterfalls, lakes, rivers, mountains, snow!! Glacier's Going-to-the-Sun road is truly something amazing, one of the places in this world where beauty can trump itself. We took pictures at the beginning, seeing towering rocky moutains painted with snow and waterfalls only to find these views getting grander and more astonishing to the point where you can't take enough pictures. Every turn and direction is awe inspiring and unbelievable, then ... read more
Biking and Hiking in Glacier
Published: June 28th 2010North America » United States » Montana » KalispellWe left our pretty little campground in the woods and traveled about 30 miles East to a town called Kalispell, MT and have set up camp at the Spruce RV Park on the River. It is quite a beautiful view of the mountains and we are right on The Flathead River. The river makes me nervous because there is no bank, it literally drops off into fast moving water. We spent our first day here just setting up camp and Hanna, Brett and Maggie really enjoyed just being able to ride their bikes around and play at a playground on their own. By the way, we also took a trip to town and Maggie finally got the new bike she'd been needed for a long time. On Sunday we headed back to Glacier National Park to ... read more
Two Bear Half Marathon
Published: September 14th 2009North America » United States » Montana » KalispellI did the Two Bear Half Marathon this morning in Whitefish MT. It was a brisk morning in town and by the time they dropped us off at the start it was really cold. The course was very scenic as we ran by Whitefish Lake. About 160 people competed in the half marathon. I did better than I had expected. Because of the all the time I have spent in my car and eating junk. I figured my time would be close to three hours. My time was about 2:25. I just relaxed for the rest of the day. Will probably head back into Glacier again tomorrow.... read more
West Yellowstone to Whitefish MT
Published: September 12th 2009North America » United States » Montana » KalispellAnother day and another 400 miles!! Glad i don't have to drive much for the next few days. It was chilly again this morning in West Yellowstone. I went back into Yellowstone one last time before I left the area. I got to see a couple of more bison before I left. That made my day, they are great creatures. Then it was back on the road for the long drive to Whitefish. It was a long day driving but the topography is really awesome and makes the drive a bit more bearable. I am at my condo and just got a few things to start the week. I am also trying to rest up for the Two Bear half marathon that I'm doing Sunday.... read more
Kalispell, Montana August 31, 2001 On Sunday Karen and I headed east for our visit to Glacier National Park. Joining us on our travels to Kalispell were Maxanne, Colleen, Warren, and AJ. We’re all heading to the city at the entrance of Glacier National Park and it’s a 200-mile ride. Driving east on route 90 to Kalispell Montana is a very interesting and lovely ride as it passes through river valleys and mountain passes. We left the highway in St. Regis, Montana and headed north. The countryside is just unbelievably beautiful. The rolling hills and ranches are just what you imagine of Montana. We cross the Flat Head Indian reservation and drive along the western side of Flat Head Lake. Kalispell is a small western city that sits in this lovely valley in the Salish Mountains ... read more
Published: July 4th 2009North America » United States » Montana » KalispellDie 2. Landschaftlich ging es ... read more
Under a spell..............in Kalispell
Published: September 8th 2008North America » United States » Montana » KalispellMorning dawned cloudy but with promise of improvement and so it did.Another great breakfast at our motel with biscuits and gravy..mmnnn...not,for those who wanted them.We nicked a few butter packs as they are handy on the road at lunchtime and you can't buy them at WalMart. We headed up MT-93 towards our intended destination of Kalispell with 112 miles to go it was going to be an easy day. Within a couple of miles of the motel and with the road ever climbing in a straight line a sign came up on the roadside that the chain fitting area was ahead. One can only imagine what the weather and temps in Missoula are like in mid winter...not for us !!!! Then it was down the other side and a short distance to the turnoff to the National ... read more
We spent the day in Glacier National Park on the Canadian border of Montana today. I have been to Banff and Jasper park and Glacier is right up there with some of the most spectacular views of glacial lakes, streams, waterfalls and of course rocking peaks. We drove up the Going to the Sun road and had another beautiful day for wandering around the parks. There was no signs of any bears or moose, but the first few hikes were pretty nice without too many people around. We did run into a 30 minute wait at Logan Pass, so we were not able to hike the 10 mile garden wall trail which sends hikers across a narrow rocky path some 20 feet above the road and down through the continental divide. I was able to upload ... read more
