I have been planning this trip to the Southeast coast (or Mid-Atlantic states) for months now. We have been to 41 states so far and this is our 6th road trip. This will make 45 states. We have one more big road trip California bound including Hawaii. Our finale is Alaska.
This trip, we will be visiting West Virginia, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia and Washington DC. All but Georgia are new states. We went to Atlanta but I wanted the kids to see the coast of Georgia, too. We are going to Savannah.
We are taking this trip over Spring Break. We decided the weather isn’t as hot as in August though we could have the other extreme...snow! And, by the way, I have had enough of that. The weather at this time of the year makes packing a little more tricky. In August, we pack shorts and t-shirts. In the spring, we pack our entire closet. Again, we have the Rubbermaid drawers in the back of van. We all bring our backpacks with socks, underwear, swimsuits and pjs for the hotel. We slip clean clothes in the bag at each hotel from our drawers. Easy peesy.
Our forecast looks like a range from 80s-50s.
We are staying at various Marriotts with our points. I rented a house for a few days on the beach in South Carolina. It was not easy to find a small enough house for us to rent on the beach. I started looking months ago, as well, because it is spring break. I found a cute 3 bedroom on the beach. Most are 10 bedrooms and baths. I attempted to rent a colonial house in Williamsburg (asked that it not be haunted. She could not promise me that.) but for a small fee of $600 a night, I can sleep like and/or sleep with my forefathers. Um...no thanks. That’s a lot of money. I’d rather stay at the Ritz for that much.
It takes a lot of planning, searching and researching to plan these trips. I check neighborhoods, reviews and look for tips from other travelers which have served us very well. I found a church in Charleston for Easter. We like to go to church in different cities. After church, I found a restaurant in an old renovated church. We will have an Easter Brunch there. We had to plan ahead for DC, too. A few months ago, I contacted our Senator to get a tour of the Capital and the White House. The Capital was easy. The White House had a few more hoops to jump through. They sent us an invitation that we had to RSVP to. Then, the secret service does a complete background check on us. We passed so we have a tour scheduled next week. Can’t wait.
After months of planning, lists and reservations, we are ready to go. I hope you will follow along. I will have lots of pictures. If you follow the blog, you will get updates as I post. Hope to see you there.
