South Dakota
Nebraska
Kansas
Iowa
Wisconsin
Illinois
Minnesota
Missouri
Indiana
and finally.....Michigan
Only 2 states left, Ohio and New Mexico
So, since I left you last we have stayed in small towns and its been a bit refreshing. So maybe I can make this blog a bit more exciting and not so much "and then we did this, and then we did this.."
We stayed in Evansville last I wrote to you, and performed in Lynnville Indiana a super small town. Just to explain, we asked the secretary for a good mechanic in town and she said there is only one and she recommended not to go to him. We headed for our next town, Jamestown, another place with one traffic light and no hotel. We had an idea. Our internet was not working so we went t othe school and asked to use their's. Instead, they told us exactly where to stay. Two points for team 'mo. Well, luckily there were hotels, but no cheap ones. We attempted the Holiday Inn Express. Markuz went in and the girl at
Precious in Lynneville
Innocence is wonderful the desk made us a deal $55, our budget....YAY! At check in we found out about a Manager's reception...this a a fantastic thing that Holiday Inn does Monday thru Friday 530pm-730pm. You can go to the lobby and drink free BEER! Not kidding. They also had an excercise room and internet, our two faves. At the lobby free beer event there were only 2 other old men there. They made us tell jokes and kept ordering us more beer. Four beers later, we began talking work. They had my favorite job...they were oil execs! Luckily I was not in the mood to discuss it, so we left. The next day, we had our largest audience...over 500 kids. Then we couldn't do question and answer. I guess that was a good thing. It could have turned into complete chaos.
Speaking of Q&A, I think I should share with you our two favorite Questions. The first was at the Milwaukee Academy of Science, a school that was 97% African American. A kid that was about 8 or 9 asked Markuz "Why don't black people and white people get along?" Markuz was so shocked and started saying"Uh...well, I think its better now
60 bites later
30 minutes after my meal....so bored I took a picture right?" The kid responded "Yeah, because Martin Luther King changed the law!"
Second runner up was today a girl about 7 years old asked me after Dorothy in OZ "What channel are you on?" I had to say "Well we aren't on a channel, that is what live theatre is all about. We are here with you now."
WE had a really fun show taday in another SMALL town of Burt Michigan, our first Michigan school. We had to stay in Birch Run, about 15 miles away at aBest Western. Our first one of those.
The kids at the school were amazing. We got to watch them leave on the busses, but not until every kid gave Markuz and I a hug. Oh, also when we arrived the secretary was so excited and brought us to the teacher-in-charge's classroom and said "Look who's here...Dorothy and TOTO!" pointing to me and Markuz. We also interupted their step aerobics, they were on their lunch breaks.
I've also figured out why people lose weight on this trip and it is not simply because of the workout of the show. I am so sick of every eatery. Pizza Hut (which in the
BIG boy
Luckily he's cute Midwest they title it the Italian Bistro...) , Subway, Burger King, Cracker Barrell, everything. At first It is either a must have for the purpose of the trip, or cheap and in a hurry.
I'm done. W got a shitload of canned good and have been eating veggies for a few days, but that gets old too. However....we couldn't resist stopping at a Big Boy today. Neither of us have been so we went. Not a good experience. Small servings and too much money. But good times....
Which leads me to Markuz's habits. Today I realized a new one, which I will discuss later, but first things first. HE IS THE SLOWEST EATER IN AMERICA! Well, maybe not that extreme, but I eat super fast. Three bites, swallow, and the next bite enters. He and I have discussed this and he was raised by his grandparents which told him to take small bites and chew 30 times. Well today at Big Boy I counted. SIXTY BITES. I tell ya. I've tried to slow down, but i just suck it up. I need to bring a book to meals because I usually and done about 30 minutes before him. Secondly, his favorite word is interesting. He uses it for many things like when he's not paying attention to me (which he does a lot...I know I can yap, but sometimes its important and he has already developed selective hearing...MEN!), or when he completely disagrees with me but doesn't want to be mean and say "Whatever you say Sarah, Whatever yo say."
WE have also figured out that our communication is like two kids on a swing....going in opposite directions. We meet in the middle for a second and hear it, but thin seperate and say "What?" These things are complete results of spending 24 hours a day with one person!
So , I definately have grown a lot during this trip and learned a few things about myself. Now I haven't yet decided if I have become a risk taker, or a coniving bitch. For example, we got an $89 room for $49 because I begged the front desk. Then, of course to save money I had been toting around pizza left overs, so I needed to heat them up. We didn't have a micro in our room (I mean really for $89), so I asked what we could do. She said "Well just go in the bar and grill you can use the one in there." So we go to the Bar and grill, and we're already bringing in food and not buying their's, but the lady at the bar had to go into the kitchen, get us a plate and heat up our food. Markuz continues to ask for butter for his canned veggies she just heated, the nwe go back to our room. Well, its not over. I wanted to smoke so we went back to the bar before heading to the jacuzzi. I had to ask for an ashtray and the same woman asked if we needed a drink. Markuz said "After the swim, sure," feeling like we owed her something. After the jacuzzi which has a window seeing right into the bar, we ran back to the room. We know that we will never see these people again. Right now the guilt is not really settling, so I'm gonna go with risk taker. I'll check in next week for an update.
Now I'm in Hillsdale Michigan and ready to perform in Reading Michigan tomorrow then we have two days off! WE don't have places of where we are going next week so who knows what this weekend will bring. Maybe Detroit?
Well I'm tired of typing...or finger excercising as I try to convince myself
LOVE YOU ALL MUCHO!!!!
Post Script...Its snowing Again 😞
