We left Williamstown and the Clark and meandered east along Route 2 the Mohawk Trail. It was the first time in years that I had driven this route through the Berkshires. It was sad to see whats happened to so many of the old tourist stops along the road. These shops were the life line for this area and are either in poor condition or had completely gone out of business. Those old "View Six States From Here" and trinket buying spots just aren't surviving. This graceful driving road has certainly lost it's intrigue to the interstate. I guess I must be part of the problem. We stopped at the Bridge of Flowers in Shelburne Falls. This is an old train bridge over the Deerfield river and connects Shelburne Falls with the town of Buckland. The Bridge has been converted to a pedestrian walkway and planted with flowers. This is such a great place to pause on your travels in this area. We stopped for a bite at the West End Pub on the Buckland side of the river. We ate on a outside porch overhanging the river looking out at the bridge, what a relaxing spot. The food was good and they had a great selection of organic brewed beer on draft. What a find. After a few brews we went out and got some pictures of the bridge then headed home.
