SEUFER6: DESTINATION: BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTES

This morning we packed up 3 suitcases loaded them in the minivan and made the journey to the big beautiful city of Boston. The drive was only about 1 hour. We will be staying at the Hyatt Hotel in downtown Boston for 2 nights and at a nice bed and breakfast for 2 nights in the north end. My dad drove us all the way into Boston, followed his map and got us nicely to our hotel. Our room wasn't quite ready, so the bellman held our luggage while we walked to a nice tavern for some lunch. After lunch we were going to walk to the park, but it was too cold for Lilly, so we headed back to our hotel where our room was ready. My daddy had to return our rental car so he left. We all got on our swim suits and headed to the indoor pool. We swam for awhile. It was fun. Then we headed back to our room, where Lilly and Emma took a much needed nap. Tanner and I did some school work while they were sleeping. We did spelling, Tanner did 4 math

lessons and I did 1 math test and 2 lessons. We are trying to do lots of school work while we can so we aren't behind when we get back to school. Then to the exercise room to work out after my dad got back. When Lilly and Emma woke up we all went swimming again and sat in the steam room for some time, it was ultra hot in there. Back to our hotel room, where we rented the movie, Night at the Museum. It was real funny, but it made my dad fall asleep. Tomorrow we are going to hit the city and see some important sites. Night everyone!

Today we woke up and did a quick workout then to breakfast at the hotel. It was good. There was yogurt, pancakes, and a lot of fruit. Then we headed to the Museum of Fine Art to do some research on some of the famous people. It was really windy so we had to take a cab. The wind chill got down to 30 below. We saw a really cool piece that is very popular called the "Maddona of The Clouds" made by a

man named Donatello. It is made out of marble and it has Mary holding baby Jesus with angles around it that can be seen better in a light. The museum puts it under a light too!! Then we caught a cab and went to the Trinity Church. It has 36 glass windows that tell a story. It is also one of the places that is on the best seen list. Then we went back to our hotel and my dad and brother got ready for the Avalanche vs. Bruins hockey game. My mom, sisters, and me got room service. We odered a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, chesse quesadila, chicken fingers, and pizza. It was good. When my dad and Tanner got home they had exciting news to tell us...

...The Avalanche WON!!!
Then we went to bed and had a good nights rest.

Today my parents woke up early and went to work out and then came and got me and my brother to work out ourselves. Then we got ready and headed down for some more breakfast at the breakfast buffet. This time though we ordered our food. I odered some hashbrowns,

eggs, and some kind of tomato with bread in it but it didn't look good so I gave it to my mom. Back to our room and packed our stuff up. The bellman came and took our luggage and put it in the storage so we could come back later after our sight seeing to pick it up for our next hotel. We took a taxi to the nearest trolley stop to get on one for a little tour. Our tour drivers name was 'Buzz'. He was very nice and loved Lilly and Emma. Then the trolley took us to the big New England Aquarium where we got off. Yesterday my dad bought us all a City Pass to use at various sites around town and this was one of them. We saw penguins, fish and sharks. Right as you walk in there was a neat penguin display with 3 different kinds of penguins. We even watched the diver go into the shark and fish tank and clean it all up. It was pretty gross though because they went in 2-3 times a day just to clean it all up!! There was an entire section devoted to just jellyfish. My

mom thinks they are very interesting. There was one neat section where you could touch certain fish like starfish, crabs and I got to hold a big horshoe crab, when it shrinks up it looks just like a horseshoe. It was neat and is a gentle crab, which was good for me. After the aquarium, we were all hungry. Buzz, our trolley driver had mentioned Legal Seafoods everytime we passed one as being one of the best seafood restaurants in the New England area and what do you know there was one right across the street from the aquarium. We all had a nice lunch. Buzz was right, it was yummy. The day was coming to an end and we needed to find the bed and breakfast we would be staying at for the next 2 nights. When we got on the trolley there was Buzz again, only he was getting off work and we had a different driver. My dad told the driver that our place was on North street. The driver said we would be the next stop in the North End of Boston in Little Italy. As we got off the trolley, we thanked the driver and

set off to find our bed and breakfast. It was amazing, it was literally, 1 block from where we got off the trolley. We found La Capella Bed and Breakfast. It was in a neat tall building that my mom and I wondered what one looked like on the inside and now we would be staying in one. We hiked up to the 5th floor (no elevators) to find a nice quaint area with a small kitchen, which is called the common area, a room called the King room with 2 twin beds, a small bed on the floor, and a bathroom, a Queen room with a queen sized bed and no bathroom. But there was a bathroom down the hall. We would have the whole 5th floor to ourselves. My dad hailed a taxi to go back to the Hyatt to get all of our luggage. While he did that, we made ourselves at home. We had bought a painting project at the aquarium and we decided to do that. Here is what we each painted: Jessica-penguin, Tanner-shark, Emma-turtle, Lilly-dolphin. Everyone did a nice job. Lilly got a little carried away and her dolphin ended up black. We all

had fun. Dad returned with the luggage. Tanner and I did some school work and then off to bed. We can't wait to see where dad takes us tomorrow.

Today we had a quick breakfast, went to Starbucks, back on the Trolley for another quick tour. We didn't stay on long, because we got off at the Museum of Science and it was so much fun! We stayed all day enjoying all the different science activities and exhibits. Me and Tanner's favorite one was the one where you learn how animation is made. There we lots of different activities to do with animation. We made a movie, did sound effects, got vidoed doing stunts. We really liked that. Then we went to where baby chicks were being born. One baby chick was just born and could barley walk. Every once in a while the baby chick would try to walk and it would wobble all over, flop back down and fall asleep. Then a few minutes later it would do the same thing all over again. There was also an egg that was cracking and was about to hatch. We patiently watched it forever, thinking

it would burst out of its shell. But it never did, then it was closing time, so we had to leave. We got in a taxi, which took us to the Prudential Tower which is 52 stories high. All 6 of us piled on the elevator which took us swiftly 50 stories up to the famous skywalk, where we had a great 360 degree view of the entire city of Boston. When we got to the top it was still daylight and the view of the city was incredible and then the sun went down and the view was sparkly and pretty. We all listened to an audio tour, which pointed out certain buildings and told us about them. It was neat and educational. Back down to the street we went to hail a taxi to head home. Only my dad asked the driver where the best place to get pizza was and we went there instead. We feasted on yummy pizza at Pizzeria Regina in the North end. We decided we couldn't be too far from the bed and breakfast, so we would walk the rest of the way. It was pretty cold, so daddy stopped at Mike's Pastry

where we all enjoyed some warmth and delicious cookie. Daddy got some quick directions and we continued to walk what seemed like forever. Sometimes daddy goes so fast and we get way behind, which is what happened. But we made it home safe and sound. We were all cold and tired from our long walk, so we put on our jammies and snuggled in for a good nights rest. Tomorrow is our last day here and the weather is suppose to finally be nice.

We woke up, gobbled down a quick breakfast, packed up, went to starbucks and then to the bank for some cash. As we were walking we all noticed we were walking right on the famous Freedom Trail, and since the weather was quite nice, we just kept following it and ran into Paul Revere's House, where we did a quick tour and learned all about Paul Revere. This 17th century home was Paul Revere's for 30 years and is the only surviving home of any of Boston's revolutinary heroes. It gave us a neat glimpse into the life of Paul Revere, displays of some of his furniture and silverwork he did.

Before his fateful ride, he was highly regarded as a metalsmith. He was married 2 times and had 16 children, some of them died very young to sickness. After the self guided tour, we found a nice italian restaurant, where dad ordered pizza(of course), a salad and some gourmet pasta. It was great! Dad had to get us a minivan to drive back to Rhode Island, so we found a neat park right by the aquarium to play for a while. Dad came back to tell us we had more time since our minivan wasn't ready yet. We got in a taxi and headed to Boston Commons, which is a giant park and public garden. This park is referred to as the Emerald Necklace, because it stretches all the way through Boston to the suburb of Roxbury. There is a big bronze of George Washington, swans, a bandstand, duckling statues, a suspension bridge, and iceskating rink. This park was finished in 1896 by the same man who did Central Park in NYC, Frederick Law Olmsted. It was neat because so many people were out since the weather was finally nice. Tanner and I rented some iceskates and skated for a

half hour. Then our minivan was ready, so we picked it up, got on the highway heading us back to Rhode Island. Despite the freezing weather, we had a fantastic time in Boston. It is a beautiful city full of important history.

We made it back into Newport by 6:00pm, back to the home at Carnegie Abbey, where mom did tons of laundry for our trip to NYC on Sunday. Tomorrow we will make one more visit to our cousins in Mystic, Connecticut.

Up and at em, loaded up the car and headed to the Mystic Seaport. This was neat, because of it is actually a living museum of how it used to be a seaport long ago. We went aboard an actual schnooer boat that a family would take out to sea for months at a time to get fish. Then we went aboard at whaling ship called the Charles Morgan. This old whaling ship would go out to sea for 3-5 years hunting down whales long ago. The captain would take his wife and children along for the trip, as well as many others to help harpoon the whale, drag it to

the ship, cut in up and pack it up in barrels to bring back to land. It seemed to be a very messy and hard job. The rest of the seaport was just like a town of long ago, with a store, church, school, bank, small homes, it was really something to see. A lot of the buildings weren't opened, because it is their slow time. We all enjoyed what we did see.

We checked into the Mystic Marriot Residence Inn, then went to Uncle Kevin's to play with the cousins. Uncle Kevin, Aunt Amy, mom and dad went to dinner while I babysat. We had fun and all stayed the night. Then, the next day, which was Sunday, we all went to our hotel to swim for a little while then to Aunt Amy's favorite grinder and pizza place called Pizza Palace. We loved the regular and ham grinders and liked the pizza too. But most of all we loved spending one more day with our cousins. We will be sad to leave them and will miss them so much when we are back in Colorado. Thanks Bufmacks for letting us hang out so much with you. Back
