Thursday, Star Date who cares. Charles Lake to Waterloo

“I can’t drive 55!” Sammy Hagar - “if only” jss

Actually this was a great day. We got up early anticipating the longest day of the week, 82 miles. Fortunately we found a short cut to our hosts, the Kimball Ave. Methodist Church, which made it 73 miles. We left Charles City and essentially heading south all day. The first two towns were 19 miles and then an additional 22 miles. Parkersburg was the second and the “meet up” town for the day. Each day there is a designated town where teams can have their support people meet them and or it is the place where everyone stops to party. Saw two guys riding the old fashioned bikes today. Have I mentioned that Ragbrai is also a rolling concert? People put speakers on their bikes and plug them into their i-pod or some other source. Some even create elaborate sound systems pulling small trailers with boom boxes or large speakers. The music is as varied as you can imagine but mostly classic rock. Tonight in Waterloo we are treated to a great facility with showers, a good meal and sleeping inside. What more could you want? Did Steve just say Mojito? We slept in the pews tonight, in the church sanctuary.
