Survivor Vartan Hartunian gives his most vivid definition or experience of the Armenian Genocide. I was so touched by this man’s story, and how bold he was to even mention such a tragic event. He said that there are five stages to a genocide is identification of a people, dehumanization, segregation, and there is extermination. “The seeds of genocide are in the hearts and minds of every individual” meaning that the media or even modern day historians may not talk about this dehumanizing tragedy, but we still know about it in our minds, bodies, and souls. Survivor Hartunian basically was basically saying how that certain minority in a genocide is segregated from everybody else because for example, the Jews were sent to concentration camps. This shows that Jews had to be separated from everyone else. They had to be deported somewhere else to be killed. The same thing goes for the Armenian Genocide, except the deportations were the form of segregation for Armenians.
