The article is explaining Columbus’s actions when he was in the Americas. It talked about how badly he treated the Native Americans. It also explains why some people want to get rid of the holiday Columbus Day. They don’t believe he should be celebrated since he tortured so many people’s lives.

I was appalled when I read this because I could not believe some of the things Columbus was doing to the Native Americans. I only thought slaves were treated this way back then. I wonder why he thought he can come and claim land that was already claimed. Just because the Native Americans look different doesn’t make them any less human.

We are learning about maps and different travelers. This article is talking about Columbus exploration when he came from Spain to the Americas.
