The beautiful skyline of Chicago
Today was a day to explore the amazing city of Chicago. We started off trying to get out of bed and eventually managed but we were feeling quite ill today. We left the hostel and headed for a bike shop where we were taking a bike tour of Chicago. On the way we got a little lost and only just made it to the bike shop in time for the tour. I didn’t feel very confident riding a bike around the city so while we waited for people from the other trek I had a ride around for practice and it all came back to me quite quickly. Still no sign of anyone from the other group so after a half an hour wait we got our bikes (mine was called Trixie) and set off. We rode around parts of the city then stopped at areas where our guide told us about the local area around the river. We continued to Millennium Park which was built in commemoration of the Millennium and saw the giant bean, then headed off to a massive fountain. It was huge, we rode around it and took some group photos before setting off again. We rode

around the museums and also a stadium until we came to an awesome lookout point where we took some more group photos with the beautiful city skyline of Chicago in the background. We then headed back past the marina and towards the bike shop, thanked our guide, gave him a tip and went for lunch. It was my favorite optional so far, I didn’t think I’d actually like it but turns out to be one of my favorite of the whole tour.

We headed down to Navy Pier to have lunch and ended up going to Bubba Gump, I didn’t really want to but everyone else did so I went along. We all had lunch together and a quick look around the souvenir shop. Most of the group split up afterwards because we all wanted to do different things in the city. Dave, Brock, Ben and I decided we’d first have a look around Navy Pier since we were right here. There were lots of different rides and attractions so we decided to first go on the Ferris wheel then play a round of mini golf. Although not the biggest Ferris wheel I’ve been on, the views were spectacular.

Chicago has an amazing city skyline with beautiful blue water around the pier, I loved it. Afterwards it was time to beat them all in mini golf. It was really a battle between Dave and I, Ben was terrible and Brock had some unlucky shots. I ended up winning, barely to Dave whoooo. We then headed to the beach which lies between Navy Pier and the city. There were some unusual views with a beach where people were swimming then massive skyscrapers towering over the water. Afterwards we headed into the city to have a good look around and wound up in a Lego store in a mall. We were looking for some tacky souvenir shops to get some clothes and eventually found one where we all bought Chicago T-shirts. For the rest of the afternoon we wandered around the city for a few hours and headed back to the hostel to get ready for dinner.

We had dinner at an Italian restaurant in Old Town, Jon recommended this amazing place then ended up booking us into somewhere completely different, I have no idea why. At dinner we decided to go up the John Hancock Building which is the

second tallest building in Chicago and on the other side of the city. So we took separate cabs, it was Tina, Marcia and I in one cab and we went to the tourist entrance of the John Hancock Building and waited for a long while for the others. They were closing up soon and we couldn’t wait any longer so we headed up without them. Seeing Chicago lit up at night was just another incredible sight, it was such a beautiful city, and this time we could see Sears Tower as part of the city. Tina, Marcia and I went back down and took a taxi back to the hostel. But still no sign of the rest of the group. While Tina and Marcia went to their room I was stuck on my own because everyone in my dorm was still out somewhere so I decided to go on the internet for a while. It wasn’t long before everyone else came back and apparently they went to a different entrance into the John Hancock Building and went up for free. Dave and Sara went out together to some more blues clubs but I didn’t get the chance to go otherwise
