Today we went to Hanuma Bay. This is supposed to be the best place to snorkel or dive because it has the most variety of fish in the bay. The bay is also supposed to be one of the calmest waters in Oahu so the visibility was good.

We got there by car and had to pay $1 parking. We got there at 8am because I read online that this parking fills up fast and usually becomes full at 9am when they turn cars away. Then we had to see a 10-minute orientation video on how to preserve the bay. Finally we got down to the bottom of the bay where there was a rental shop for snorkeling. For 2 sets of snorkels, masks and fins, it cost about $35.

Golda didn’t know how to swim so she had to wear an inflatable life vest. It was a slow start for us to go snorkeling, but when we finally got out there it was exciting and adventurous. We saw numerous fish from blue, to yellow, to striped ones, etc. I liked the fact that I could explore the whole bay by snorkeling and still feel pretty safe and comfortable, because there weren’t that many waves on the bay; not like Boracay, where I didn’t want to stray off to far from the boat because the currents were too strong to fight against.

We then headed off to our next stop to chill, Kailua Beach Park. The drive there was awesome, and another different type of scenery. We had to drive up the mountain where it got a little chilly, especially with the top down. When we got to the beach we saw a lot of kite surfers because it was so windy there. There was always at least a 20km/h wind blowing. The sand was also so fine it was almost like dust. I had trouble cleaning up my camera equipment because of the sand. Although it was beautiful, we decided to leave because we couldn’t chill because it was too windy.

We then went to the Aloha tower. The place was a beautiful tourist spot, but it was mostly abandoned that day. The whole compound was named after the one big clock tower there, I guess.
