view from the hostel
this is the beach view from the front of the main house of the hostel. Well, having been here at the University of Hawaii at Manoa since July 2nd, it's been great getting to know everyone in my dorm, and meeting the amazing people that I have met throughout this whole experience. I definitely needed to get away from home. Home being WA State. Too many stressful things going on. This has definitely been a wonderful breather. Anyways, on to the good stuff...This past weekend has hands down got to be the best weekend I've ever had in my whole entire life.
I made my way up to North Shore to stay at a hostel for the weekend with a friend, Rachel. Rachel ended up hanging out with some of her dorm mates that just by concidence happened to be up there, so by Saturday she was nowhere to be seen. On Friday, when we got to the hostel, the first thing we noticed was how beautiful the views were and how the places to stay were modeled to look like a tropical village and little village huts. Later that afternoon after we got settled in, the hostel was holding a dinner so Rachel and I decided to go and see if we would meet
nicola and i
Nicola and I on our last day at the hostel any cool people. The first thing we both noticed when we got to the tables was how many guys were there! I mean you'd think you'd see a fair amount of girls as well because we were up at North Shore...but I guess not. So anyone looking for hot guys...they are up at North Shore 😊 The only other people were older couples-in their 30s or so. That's when we met Nicola. She was from the UK and being one of the only other girls there, we invited her to sit with us.
Now having never been to a Hostel, or travelled alone anywhere - meaning far far away w/o the family-, this was a whole new experience for me. The three of us were just eating quietly minding out own business when all of a sudden we see the
HUGE group of guys coming up to eat. There had to be at least 16 of them. Well, they took up 3 of the 5 wooden tables that were available. It wasn't until some of them asked if they could join us did our weekend get started. First we noticed they were Australian. Then they told us they were
swimming at waimea bay
The guys goofing off at waimea bay in the navy and had been at sea for 5 months. They hadn't talked to girls in forever which was somewhat hilarious. Funnily enough, they couldn't believe we were still there talking to them. We didn't mind, and we weren't freaked out by them at all. We were just happy to make new friends and be having a good time. I think Nicola and I had the most fun out of the 3 of us girls. Rachel was kind of a downer. She ended up leaving the fun later that night. Well the guys had a blast telling us all their navy nicknames and getting pissed drunk. They also seemed to love singing Aussie songs-in particular the song "We Come From A Land Down Under". Picture all of these drunk guys singing and playing the guitar to this...priceless 😊
So lets just say Friday night passed in a blur. To touch base, besides the singing, it included midnight-3am swimming under the stars, and running/stumbling across the street barefoot with painful trips over damn roots of the trees that were above the beach. I really do remember all of what happened but that would take another several paragraphs to explain.
andrew and i
Andrew and I posing-Drunken aussies stole my camera fri night! So Saturday rolled around, and Nicola and I went to Waimea Bay with the boys. Apparently there "was no water" at the waterfall for some odd reason??? Who knows, so we just went across the street and layed out on the beach and swam a bit. By this time, Rachel was long gone with her dormmates, and so it was Nicola and myself and all of the Aussie guys. We had a blast, and Nicola and I were having fun chatting away. Later that evening, we basically had another night of craziness. This time Nicola and I both ended up hanging out with two of the guys-Cameron and Andrew. Honestly I think they were the most
normal out of all of the guys. The rest of them were just crazy drunk guys lol...We just ended up walking up and down the beach and talking and stuff. What was hilarious was later that night, Nicola was stuck at the table with the majority of the guys trying to get her to play some drinking games, so Cameron asked me to go get her for him. Actually it was more like, "Go have a "girl talk" with Nicola, only don't, just use
friendly visitor
one of the little visitors running around the hostel that as an excuse to bring her out here... 😊 " Well, once the 4 of us got together, we went down to the beach and had our towels and the cooler and just chilled and talked. It was the most relaxing thing I had done since being in Hawaii.
Sunday came around and everybody was just unmotivated and tired. Most all of the guys had to head back to the ship, including Cameron, so Nicola was sad about that. She was leaving later that afternoon to head back to her hostel in Waikiki. That left Andrew, myself, Sparkles, and 2 other of the guys in the mainhouse. We literally sat around and watched a few movies on the tv. One of the younger guys was totally acting like a little kid; he was outside chucking a basketball at the wall of the house, and pouting because he wanted to go to the beach. After watching Miss Congenality, A Knight's Tail *which they all LOVED, cheering on Heath Ledger...haha*, and some other movie, most everyone went down to the beach.
Overall, that whole weekend was just so relaxing and just a great experience because I got to meet
harassment!
Nicola and one of the aussie guys a little too happy... :) Halfway through Friday night, we had 2 U.S. army/marine ppl there (that other guy is one of them), the guy who checked us in, some elderly people (YES THEY WERE OLD) who stopped by for a beer, and a few locals who came and went. And still there were no other girls. Good? Or bad? You decide. so many amazing people. I ended up staying on until Monday, when the rest of the guys left-which was a little sad because Andrew and I had become such good friends... but to this day, we're still in touch, and call each other when we can.
I reccomend anyone who goes to Hawaii to stay at the hostel up on North Shore near Waimea Bay. Backpacker's Inn. It was a great experince, the people are very chill and friendly, and you have an amazing view!
