I don’t know why I’m writing this blog anymore. Nothing is interesting or exciting. We had tickets to hike Diamond Head this morning at 6am. Kamie said he wanted to return to Pearl Harbor and do a guided tour on the USS Missouri. The idea was to hike Diamond Head then Uber over to the Missouri and back. He wasn’t up in time for Diamond Head so we lost our ticket time (reservations only there) and we left late for the Missouri. Don’t get me started. The USS Missouri was the last battleship ever used by the USA and the site of the surrender signing by Japan in World War II. It was an okay tour but then it got hot standing out in the sun listening to the guide. We found out on the way back to our hotel that it was 89 in Honolulu today. At one point, it felt it. I thought this tour was overall boring and a waste of my hard-earned vacation time and money. I think Kamie loved it. He said we are Green Acres – opposites. Ain’t that the truth. We tried Hawaiian shaved iced and we had more fresh pineapple. Our Uber back
to the hotel was in a Tesla. They don’t have door handles that stick out – you push the little area where the handle would normally be and one pops out. Our Uber driver (who was a character himself) told us that 80% of Oahu is Asian but the other Hawaiian Islands are all mainly Caucasians. He also said they teach Hawaiian language and culture in schools and his daughter knows more about the history of the island than he does. We passed a school on the way to Pearl Harbor and they have different little buildings with outdoor "lockers" and hangars with overhead covers so each building had a wall of kids backpacks hanging on hooks - outside. Can you imagine that in Missouri in January? Hawaii DOT was cleaning up the side of the highway today. They must have read my blog. We came back to the room and I had been awake since 3am so I took a nap. Kamie sat on the balcony and burned his legs in the roasting sun. I woke-up about the time he took a nap. I went swimming and read. I would swim around, read a few chapters, and swim around
some more. I actually got cold. The water is chilly but refreshing. Around sunset, I walked to the front of the resort to take a few pics. It was beautiful out there, like a movie set. It's around midnight here as I type this. We have new neighbors in the room next to us and their child cried for a full fifteen minutes tonight. I felt that. Not much else to say.... John Grisham's book is currently all about Libya (blah) and I still don't know where he is going with this story. He does love his baseball, however, and has already thrown in several baseball chapters. I'm sure I have more interesting tales but my timeclock is off as it is just after midnight here and it is just after 5am there so I'm normally waking-up about now not going to bed and it's confusing.
