Goodnight
I am so tired at this point... I was awake around 4:30am Hawaii time (which is 9:30am Missouri time). It was dark and pouring rain outside. Our waitress at dinner last night had told us they were in the middle of a drought and had been praying for rain. Well, they got plenty this morning. I went back to sleep until around 6:30am. Kamie had stayed-up half the night on the balcony so he was in bed snoring. The rain had quit so I walked around the resort to see some areas I had not checked-out previously. Our resort is 22 acres. I walked almost the entire resort this morning so I’m getting my steps in every day. This place is full of early morning walkers and people getting their daily exercise on vacation. The resort is beautiful and very well taken care of with the plants of all colors and sizes. There are several waterfalls and fish/coy ponds throughout the resort paths. Everyone seems friendly. This time of year is less families and more people our age or older.
I finally caved and got my regular iced tea at one of the Starbucks here in the village (there are two). I sat down at a table
Kamie's Bday gift
A Zippo from the Hard Rock Cafe Honolulu. He already has one from Krakow Poland outside by our pool to drink my tea and eat my warmed blueberry scone and an Indian lady joined me. She talked and talked. We had a rental car booked for today to go to Kualoa Ranch but after seeing all the crazy traffic in Honolulu, I decided I didn’t want to drive an hour northeast just to see some landscape I have already flown over. Kamie continued to sleep and I put on a swimsuit and grabbed my book. I went to the pool closest to our room (there are five on property). It was cool saltwater but refreshing. I read a few more chapters of my Grisham book and I like it more, I’m just not sure where he is going yet. I got back in the pool a couple of times to cool off and the last time, I stayed in for a while because a lady from Arizona talked and talked. Lots of talky ladies today. I wasn’t in the mood.
I came back to the room and talked to Kamie. He agreed he didn’t like Hawaii but he also agreed to stop the nonsense and try to enjoy the time we have here. You
know, like a grown-up.
He called his work to inquire about his 5 days of bereavement leave but they still haven’t made arrangements for his granny’s funeral yet. I’m not sure what he is going to do or if we will return in time to make the funeral.
I cleaned-up our messy hotel room and Kamie and I crawled in bed because I was still freezing from the pool and he wanted a nap. We slept and slept. You gotta love vacation.
We eventually made our way to the Cheesecake Factory in downtown Honolulu for dinner. Everything is less than a mile walk away. Kamie had never been to a Cheesecake Factory and he liked it. We had the meatball appetizer then he had chicken in a tomato basil pesto sauce and I had chicken with asparagus and mashed potatoes – basically fried chicken breast. They bring you truffle oil and honey and you are supposed to mix the two and cover your chicken. I do not like truffle oil and didn’t want honey on my chicken. Our meals were huge. We didn’t even eat half of them. We ordered a slice of pineapple upside down cheesecake
and two boxes to go. We walked to the Hard Rock Café where Kamie got a new Zippo lighter. We took an Uber back to the hotel, put away all the food, I washed my face and brushed my teeth and was asleep in about 20 minutes. It’s 3:05am here right now and I’m wide awake typing this blog and Kamie’s snoring. The time change has thrown us for a loop. When it’s noon here, it’s 5pm there.
Overall, today was an okay day. We seem to be doing a lot of napping, laid-back walking and sightseeing or generally sitting on our balcony doing nothing ….but I wanted a relaxing vacation.
Btw, I'm going to have plenty of time Wednesday afternoon and I'm hoping to figure out the picture thing with this blog and my new laptop.
