Beaufort to Brunswick

chef Jimchef Jimchef Jim

we were treated to gourmet cooking and the luxury of one of the 6 bedrooms in Jim & Lori's place in Hilton Head
Arrived here yesterday after 3 gold star days transiting the sounds, rivers and marshes of Georgia.
The currents are strong and with 8' tides we have to plan our moves carefully. The chartplotter has a great program to allow us to predict currents and tides in advance - making the difference between 20 mile days and 50 mile days.

We were kindly invited to spend a night ashore with Lori, Jim, Lou and Ward ( fellow sailors from our dock in Wiarton) in Hilton Head - a great stopover in the 6 bedroom house they had rented.

Gust O'Wind will be moored here in Brunswick while we make our way home for Christmas - then we will resume our trip south early in January.

we made the most of our day ashore and walked the beach at Hilton Head with Lou and Ward. Note the frost on the bridge.

these guys have right of way and exercise it! They have been known to dismast sailboats with their booms. they have interesting names - "Dammit" and "Hemorrhoid" are our favourites.

the crab pots are everywhere and we have to be vigilant to avoid snagging one - we think these guys were mine layers in a former life

this ship did not show up on the chart - probably why many cruisers have radar!

not much protection but the holding is good... at night we can hear shrimp "popping" under the hull..a line of 10 or so dolphin cruised up this creek, probably hearding fish into a shallow area to feed.

like Pensacola, Brunswick has existed under 5 flags - Spain, France, England, the Confederacy and the US
