Today we were hyped because not only is it our first state line day, but we also get to take a ferryyyy!
We awoke in Jax with alarms and lights going off wayy too early due to a miscommunication (though in reality we probably should’ve gotten up when they went off!). We packed up and then me and the Ellies efficiently packed up the trailer with all bags, bins, and some bikes for those who were safety naving for the day. We enjoyed a breakfast with the church ladies that hosted us that consisted of bananas, bagels, OJ, coffee, and LARA BARS! ?? Amanda was so excited she said “I wish this bar would never ever end” so I grabbed her a backup for when it did ?
After breakfast and cleaning up, we had route meeting by Beth and my ride group from yesterday, with the assistance of Raffi & Amanda, lead the group in what is now our official cheer! We were all so fired up! It’s goes:
Oh Canada!
Our home & native land—(cut off by Amanda)
You know K2C
Yeah you know me!
You know K2C
Yeah you know me!
You know K2C
Yeah
you know me!
Yeah we’re K2C
We post our pics, we get our likes
So if you see us move aside
‘Cus we, are gonna ride!
Oh they think they’re cool!
Cool enough than all y’all fools!
Oh they think they’re real!
Real enough to ride two wheels!
Oh they think they’re tough
Tough enough to sham our butts
Tough enough to muscle up
Tough enough to hoola hoop
Tough enough to use those tools!
Heyy K2C how do youuuuu feel?!
I feel good oh I feel so good HEY!
I feel good oh I feel so good HEY!
I feel good oh I feel so good HEY!
1-2-3 NORTH IS THE PATH!
A little long but oh so fun!! ☺️☺️ And so fired up!!
I managed to recruit Carly to finally ride bikes with me at breakfast this morning so I rode off with her, Annie, & NJ. We had lotssss of stop signs in the beginning but after we were out of Jax Beach it was smooth sailing. We even got to take a ferry ride with the whole team at one point! While we were on trails and low traffic roads, we played never have
a ever, talked about Carly’s life, family, & career ambitions and about Annie and her wedding venue and wedding dress. It was a fun “get-to-know-you” ride and we were welcome by kind and personalized chalk at lunch, which was done by Benson and Jess!
After eating the DM panera bread bagels I scored with PB & Nutella in the shade, we rode on towards the trail and some busy, construction roadways. At one point we had what would’ve been 3-4 lanes to ourselves bc of the roads being closed bc of construction (which was easily assessable by bike) and then at other times we lost the shoulder completely with high-speed traffic and had to walk around the barrier only to run out of high grass and need to ride onto the fast road.
After the construction we had a bike lane and with confident communication with each other, we pushed for miles until we reached Casey’s liquor store where we stopped and enjoyed Cokes and sunflower seeds, compliments of NJ—so kind and fun! Other groups joined our roadside stop and eventually we all moved forward to our FL/GA state line!!
We crossed the bridge over the river
and were in GEORGIA!!! We waited for all the teams to arrive and then rode to the state line sign together and too lots of pics, videos, and made painful human pyramids! With only 6 miles left to the host and feel like we are finally getting somewhere and accomplishing something, we rode on to the host. With it only being a 51 mile day and mostly shaded, we were energized and ready to shower!
I grabbed a quick and cold (& smelly) shirt before settling in to relax for a bit. I then got recruited to play cards and was being coached by Sarah before helping set up for dinner since we’re on dinner crew now. The family minister of the church, Jeremy, made us tacos with fruit, veggies, and chips & salsa ? What a great spread! We then helped clean up, do some dishes (shout out to my Ellies and the best chore group hands down!), and plan out how to paint the tailor (finally! No rain!)! With some plans, we painted the back with a safety triangle and “Give Bikes 3 Feet” and it already looks so much better than the white trailer!
Then
we had town hall where my low was my mosquito bikes & my technical difficulties with my bike & GoPro, my high being the Freedom Mile for Michaela’s Birthday, and my shout out going to the Ellies for working well together and to Amanda who wakes up early, fixes coffee for everyone, is quiet in the morning, asks great snagging questions, and is always positive, uplifting, & encouraging! Always the humble MVP! We talked Safety, morning schedule, K2C love, and random nonsensticle Q&As.
After Town Hall Jana and Amanda played against me and Carly and it was such a great game! We won (just barely) after going neck in neck with each other! We then alll turned down eventually, knowing that tomorrow is a later wake up call day since host breakfast was at 7:30. Grateful for some time to catch up on the blog and get some extra sleep, I was again the last one to call it a night...
