Mellow Mushroom
Rachael & Cory and Mushroom Man Good-bye's are never easy and the one with our son, Cory, and his family is so difficult. It is wonderful when we are with them but when we have to leave, it becomes so apparent how much we miss them. ????. I hope we will see them again soon. Last evening, we went to the Mellow Mushroom restaurant. Rachael is working there on her college break as their hostess......And she is "The Hostess with The Mostest". The food there is delicious and bountiful. We got on the road
@ 9:30 the morning. For a moment I was nervous because I couldn't find my pocketbook. This is getting to be a bit much and way too stressful. Fortunately, it was quickly located in our car but geez, it is not helping my blood pressure. Perhaps it is part of the aging process or could it be that I lug around too many carry totes. I have my wonderful "Ameri-Bag" pocketbook that my cousin gave me years and years ago. Lifetime warranty so I got a new one a couple years ago. I love it! Then, I have my IPad carry bag (that I can put other stuff in also) that our daughter, Kim,
Stopped in Traffic
An accident 12 miles ahead! gave to me. I love that, also. Then, I have my big cloth, flea market, sling bag where Lulu rides. By the time I have these all slung around me, I am bent over and look like a bag lady. Kind of close to the truth cause I have my life's treasures in them. It's a lot to keep track of. Maybe I should resort to one big knapsack and have only that to deal with. I think I would look too bulky, though. Folks would think I was always going on a hike. Bag ladies still want to look snazzy. Well, the chatter today is limited because there is not much going on to see. We are in South Carolina now....only big pine trees line our route and they are mighty boring. Cory stopped once for gas ( diesel:$3.15/gal) and I ran into the truck stop for something to do. Most of it is truck driver related stuff but it suffices my need to browse and shop. One thing I have been buying since we left is a charger cord for my IPad. They had one there that looked good but I have quite a few NOW. The one
The Accident
Or a meeting spot? I brought with me is broken with an exposed wire. My backup one actually is for my IPod but it seemed to work. While in Wal-Mart, they had one just like my old one so Cory said to get it...$22. That was fine until we went to Best Buy with Cory and Shenen. They had one (different make) and it was on sale for $15.00. Plan now is take back the Wal-Mart one. I used the Best Buy one last night and it didn't charge at all. So all day now, I have been charging the IPad with our car battery one that goes in the cigarette lighter spot. I am only charged 32%!s(MISSING)o far and it is
2:30 PM. Did you count how many chargers I have now? And I am not satisfied with any of them, except I guess, the Wal-Mart one.Flash bulletin: we are stalled in traffic because of an accident 12 miles ahead. Wow...this may take awhile. It's good we are not sick and trying to rush to a hospital. At least, I can type on the IPad easier....my fingers are not jumping all over the place causing me to write words that look utterly non-sensible.
Vehicles Heading North
As far as the eye can see... Cory has pulled out his smart phone so he can play our addictive game: Big Fish Casino. He's happy. Truckers are getting a little wild and antsy....using those words I thought were non-sensible. We are behind another motor home towing a car so we look like a mini caravan. Now it is starting to rain. The truckers are saying that it has become a double accident because of the rubber-necking. A red pickup truck from NY had honked as he passed us earlier....must have seen our license plate holder that reads Olean, NY. Now we are parked side by side in this jam. Cory is chatting with the two men in the truck. One is from Cheektowaga, NY ( Buffalo). The other is from Olean so knows the area and even mentioned Scio where our other daughter, Lory, and her family live. "It's a small world after all" - a song we dislike a lot. Oh for heaven's sake. I was feeling sad for the victims and how their New Year has begun. We got past the accident which must have been only a fender bender if that. The 2 couples were in the median laughing and shaking hands. I
couldn't see any damage with the vehicles. In the meantime, now both sides of I-95 have backed up for miles & miles & miles because of the people slowing just to see what happened. Unreal! The truckers have a lot to say but nothing I can repeat. Our Tom-Tom GPS reads 88 miles to Brunswick, Georgia. Maybe we will call it a night around there. We don't like driving when it gets dark...bad enough in daylight. The traffic is heavy and we still experience slow-ups off and on as we roll along. There seems to be many, many motor homes going North (much more than going South).....where are they going? Did they miss a turn and get switched with their direction? Wonderment abounds. Actually, all the traffic seems bumper to bumper going North. Let us know if you are aware of some apocalypse ahead in the South. Well, it's
5:30 now and we have just pulled into a very nice Microtel. Free peaches and other amenities you usually don't find at a Microtel. Only problem: it is not a drive around. Cory had to unhook the car and jockey the RV around in the parking lot and rehook the car.
Same scene
Going North has the traffic...no one going South Our hook up is easier since we got the Air Force One braking system for the car and the Blue Ox hitch. It is still a pain, though. We tossed our bags in the room but wait!.....what is this? We must be in a handicap room. We have a living room and kitchen area besides the bedroom. Must be they saw me laddened down with my bags and thought I needed all the help I could get. We had a coupon for this place for $44.00 and they took it, even for this huge room. Yippee. We walked to a nearby restaurant. Cory was doing his happy dance - his bourbon manhattans were only $1.99 and he said they were very good. He would have drunk more than two but enough is enough when we are tired. The meals were mega size. We left half of our dinners cause we just couldn't eat anymore. Just about kills me, especially since there are no critters to take it all home to. Total bill was $24. You could spend that at McDonalds and not get drinks or the 2 loaves of Italian bread with the dipping oils plus the main course and
all the sides. How do they do it? I have no idea but wish we had places like this in our neck of the woods. I'm done now with Blog 5. Wipe those tears from your eyes. I'll be back. This blog might be like the Seinfeld episodes: a lot about nothing. Don't I wish! Enjoy each day to the fullest in this New Year. It's going to be a good year. I can feel it. ??? Good night, one and all.
