Yes...we made it past the Ben Sawyer Bridge in time.

We stopped last night at Jekyl Island, Jekyl Harbour Marina, to visit travel mates Bob and Nancy on the RACHEL J. Feeling lazy today after a dinner party last night, we're slow casting off. A couple who keep their boat in the Mediterranean dropped by and there's lots to learn and notes to compare. When we're done chatting we'll be heading out toward Florida.

Melodeon has been logging 50 to 60 miles per day as we pursue our quest for warmer weather. There is talk that the Canadians brought their freezing weather with them. The 20's F with wind chill down to the 10's makes us really glad we have a wood stove and a diesel stove on board. We were out scavenging wood today to keep from freezing at anchor.

Our volunteer crew, Paul and Dawn are still with us and planing to visit relatives in Jacksonville on route to Orlando.

Frank's foot is looking better every day and he can walk carefully without his cane now.

Ginger is sending a picture of her frozen water dish so you can fully understand her dog's life on shipboard.

Talk.....
Ya, you guys brought the cold with you :-). The news says Florida oranges are in trouble. Another reason to raise prices in the Great White North. Safe Sailing my friends Gord in the cold country.

Bravo Zulu - Well Done
I start with a little Naval acknowledgement. This cold is unreal and seems to be getting worse before it gets better. CNN has been talking about the cold air from Canada for a few days. The UK is also in a snowy deep freeze. That is a great picture of "US"; and poor Ginger. A tot of 150 over proof Navy Rum could warm you for a while and it helps with attitude adjustment too. Do you have a Florida location in mind... like Orlando? We had a civilized New Years Eve in Strathroy... and then it started to snow. They have pilled up 3 to 4 feet off Lake Huron; we have only a little. Stay Warm... the sun is on the rise now... that is positive. Cheers, Mike

Jekyl Island
Hi Chris and Frank, , Glad you are enjoying your adventure. I am with you in spirit. I loved Jekyl Island. Mac and I went to the Queen Ann style hotel for a magnificent brunch. It was amazing at about $13 per head. We were offered valet parking for our marina bikes but declined knowing we could take care of them ourselves. If you pass through there again, I highly recommend the brunch plus the historic tour by horse and buggy. On our second trip, we were in Jacksonville, Florida by the end of November and had ice on the dock. Love your blog!!! Fair winds and calm seas, Sandy

You're a handsome couple! Looking seaworthy and rosy. Possibly a black bowl for Ginger would help to keep the water from freezing - ah well it's a dog's life! I'm going back on road any day now too. But just until the end of March - then it's back to business fulltime! Luv you, Eliz

Judith
Hi: I remember. Very glad Kethryn had you there to help her through. Great to hear from you. Not sure when we will get to Panama City but you are welcome to visit when you're out touring. Kathryn has our phone number or you can send a private message on this blog which we can respond to. Have a great holiday.

Elizabeth
Thanks my dear. We miss you and the potlucks so much. Seems like we'll all be freezing, working our way down the road or river. We just need a vacation somewhere warm!!! Speaking of Ginger... she met a giant orange talking cat called 'Catfish', on Jekyl Island. It was the strangest thing to see the cat speaking in cat sentences and Ginger looking like she had met a Martian. Love CFG

Sandy
Thanks Sandy. We met a couple who drove to Jekyl Harbour just because they miss the nice folks there. It's a hopping little marina with lots o live-aboards doing repairs before proceeding south. Glad you're enjoying the trip! CFG

Bravo Michael!
Taking time to catch up while doing a windy anchor watch. What a drag, pardon the pun. Frank had discovered a 'Black Strap 'molasses style' rum that seems to make him warmer. We hope to take in the Miami Boat show Feb. 11-15. Thanks for sharing the blog with Maureen. Got a nice note from her. She sounds lovely. Cheers. CFG
