We managed a trip north to the Carolina Shores and spent some time on the beaches there after a visit to Fort Fisher. Fort Fisher is one of the lesser known battle fields of the civil way and was also used during WW 2 and a small military stronghold to protect the port. The state recreational area near there has wonderful beaches that stretch for miles. If you are driving a 4x4 as a towed vehicle, I suggest paying the $15 fee for a day pass and driving the trail down the beach for a more secluded experience. The waters here are very inviting and most of the time they are great for swimming. After getting some sun and colleting a few shells, we drove past the Aquarium and pulled into the ferry terminal. For $5 we were able to transit from Fort Fisher to Southport in 30 minutes. After experiencing the traffic issues in Wilmington, it was well worth the fee and was Julie’s first time on such a boat. When we go back to the area, we will take the ferry for sure now that I know how affordable it is. We stopped at

Taking a stroll in the surf of Sunset Beach North Carolina a local Chinese restaurant that is a small family operation. China King near Sunset Beach specializes in take out food, but it is good food and plenty of it. We closed out the evening eating Chinese and watching a few movies, good times relaxing at home in the RV.

rd We headed south for the day, stopping in Little River South Carolina to have breakfast at Waffle House. The staff was what really made the place stand out. The morning manager Beverly made sure that we were well taken care of and made us feel at home. Food is always good at these restaurants and reasonably priced. We spent the day taking in the sun at North Myrtle Beach, walking in the soft sand and pick through a few shells. The warm surf was churning up a few good pockets for different shells; we found some to add to our collection. A breeze kept the crowd down to just the locals and there were a few kite surfers jumping the waves. We packed up after a while and tried our luck at finding some deals in the gift shops. This time of year
most of the shops are 50 percent off on all merchandise, so we managed a few good deals. We grabbed some groceries and headed back to our RV to settle in for the night.

th Our RV Park (Brunswick Beach RV Park) is in a great location for those wanting beach and golf. Courses like Tiger’s Eye, Panther’s Run, Leopard’s Chase, Jaguar’s Lair, Sandpiper Bay, Sea Trail, The Pearl and Thistle Golf course. All within just a few miles and vary in the number of holes of play from 18 to 27, with different degrees of challenge. I played 18 holes at Sandy Bay with two locals that had come over from The Pearl Golf Course for a change of pace. Both gentlemen were accomplished golfers and we managed to have a great time on the greens. The beautiful grounds were well kept and provided various levels of play. I would recommend that you keep an eye to all water challenges in this southern region of the US; there are things that bite that are far worse than a mosquito. I have seen plenty of alligators and snapping turtles as I played the
golf courses.

th We made another run south again to Myrtle Beach to do some shopping at one of the Broadway at the Beach Mall. We found plenty of great shops and eateries; it was a great day of walking and picking up trinkets for ourselves and a few for gifts. There is a Ripley’s aquarium, a mini golf course, amusement park and a nice indoor theater on site. With all there is to do, we needed to come back a second day just to take it all in. Shopping, eating, boat rides, putting Viking Mountain, with plenty to do for all ages it is a full day and then some.

th We had made reservations for an evening at The Medieval Times dinner & tournament show and the Pirates voyage dinner show for the 10
th of November. Both shows came highly recommended and we had never been to either. We spent the first part of the day cleaning up around the RV and then off to see the Knights of old. Though the wait to enter the arena seemed a little long, it gave us

Heading further south time to get a drink, order some wine for our seating and pick up a few items as gifts. Once seated, we were immersed in the tournament activities, cheering for a knight that represented our group and enjoying the meal provided. I won’t go into detail so I don’t spoil it for those who have not been, but it is well worth the time and money spent. If you have the opportunity, I suggest you go at least once.

th After a nice day at the beach, we drove south to take in the Pirates Voyage Dinner show outside Myrtle Beach. Similar to the Medieval Times Show, the audience is held in the lobby for a time before the show and the meal is quite a bit like what we had been served two night prior. In spite of the minor concepts shared between the shows, we really did enjoy the entertainment. It seemed much more fast pace and offered more interaction, the birds, the seal, the acrobatics and water show kept us engaged. All in all, it made for an outstanding dinner show that we both really enjoyed. It was a great
way to finish out our stay in the area before we headed south to winter out.

th We head south toward Savannah Georgia and stopped for a few days at a wonderful little Camp about 45 minutes south of Savannah. The McIntosh Lake RV Park is not big and does not take any long term campers. It offers a quiet place to hold up for a few days and the staff was very friendly. We were directed to a local diner less than 2 miles southeast on GA Hwy 99 called Altman’s, this family restaurant is a gem. Serving up fantastic meals for an inexpensive price that we thought was outstanding. My steak was exceptional and my wife’s meal was just as great. We dined there several times while in the area because it was that good. During our short stay, we drove our tow vehicle through Savannah GA to Tybee beach in search of trinkets and gifts. It had been a few years since we discovered this delightful beach town and wanted to return. I recommend that you also check out the old forts in the area. There are several that offer

Storm really stirring it up. great historical interest for both revolutionary and civil war buffs. Savannah is an old town that is rich in history, spend some time on the river front walking the cobble stone, shopping and take in a dinner cruise on Savannah River Queen or the Georgia Queen.
Well that is it for now, time to head south to Florida where we plan to winter out, which I will cover in the next posting. Till then… Happy RVing.
