Cocoa Beach
Ron Jon Shop We're Going to the Beach...Yahoo, Yippee. What a wonderful day we had with our good friends, Mike and MJ. Remember they were our professional, Harry Potter tour guides at Universal Studios. This day they were professional beach-goer tour guides. They had our watery itinerary all mapped out. MJ drove....brave lady. I haven't driven since we have been in Florida...scaredy cat. She drove us around like a limo driver...not a bit nervous! Her, not me. First stop: the huge Ron Jon Surf Shop in Cocoa Beach. Lulu had fun trying various photo shoots. Next stop: neat gift shop across the road with items priced super low. Loved it! As we sucked up the atmosphere of this beachside neighborhood, we stopped and bought a picnic lunch of chips and subs. Carrying 4 folding chairs, we danced across the burning sand to find our spot. Beautiful: the glistening sand and the shimmering ocean with frothy white caps as our view. Life is good. We devoured our lunch while enjoying the company of each other and the gorgeous surroundings we found ourselves in. Lulu wasted no time inching her way to the water...like a newborn turtle going to its watery home. The sand was burning
Cocoa Beach
Together on Hot Sand hot but no problem here.....no feet to get charred. The lifeguards studied her from afar wondering if they had a terrible, ghastly and severe shark bite accident on their hands......her whole body eaten by sharks? Lulu loves drawing attention to herself...show off. Moving on, MJ & Mike took us to Jetty Park. Here we walked way out on a jetty (pier) observing the various fisherman hoping to make a catch. Pelicans lined the rocks of the jetty.....leaving their calling card on them all. Looked like milkshakes spilled onto the big boulders. Had there been cruise ships leaving or returning to their port, they would have passed directly next to us. Only pelicans and turtles today. There was an RV Park right here......what a view they had, especially if one of those big boats floated by in this channel. Our guides still had more planned for this beachy journey. We were escorted to Port Canaveral.....where the cruise ships dock. They had selected a fantastic restaurant called Grills (yummy food...fresh fish). Their sign said: if you want fried fish....go to Long John Silvers. It was located right on the water and where the fishing boats come in.....as well as the floating hotels.
No big vessels today but what a sight when the fishing trollers pulled up. About three thousand (it seemed like that many, anyway) pelicans greeted them. The fishermen brought their catch up to a long metal sink and cutting area. Several sailors began filleting these glassy eyed ocean residents. The pelicans watched from the metal roof above this slaughter slab while the other thousand, big mouth birds paddled in the water below......waiting for the discarded body parts to be thrown to them. It was a grisly fighting war when a morsel landed.....what a frenzy. They can be pretty aggressive when it comes to food. They were so intense watching and waiting for a snack that I could get right up next to them for my photo shot. Lulu tried to get in for the shot but they didn't like her. She thought they would all be kind like Nigel in "Finding Nemo". I guess she wasn't fishy enough looking. They wanted these scaly critters, instead. Signs all over this oceanside butcher shop read: Please Poke Eyes. Yuck! Why! So the poor fish couldn't see what was happening? No...the maritime man said it was to allow the carcass to stay submerged
and not float to the top to rot and stink. Ewwwwwe. One successful fisherman had caught two big fish....sharks? He took it to a stage to hang it, weigh it and have snapshots taken of himself and Sharknado. Our exciting day ended at MJ & Mike's home. A wonderful house near The Loop (mega shopping arena).....a dream-come-true location. Their sweet dog was there to greet us. If you want a tour of anyplace in Florida, give this delightful couple a call. That way all of us can be friends with them. Mike & MJ, thank you very much for a day packed with wonderful and lasting memories. There are good ships and wood ships but the best ships are friendships! Yay!
