Trekamerica tour started at 7:30am in the lobby of the hotel. Meet the tour leader Christine and the other 11 people on my tour, there is only 1 couple of the rest of us are travelling by ourselves. I'm the only Australian which I wasn't expecting, mainly the rest of the group are from the U.K (England or Ireland), we also have one German, an American, a Danish girl and a girl from Botswana. Christine has decorated the van with American themed decorations as we are about to head to D.C to watch the 4th of July fireworks. We made a very quick stop in Philly as nothing was open due to security prep for the celebrations that night.
Got to our first campsite in maryland just out of D.C and set up our tents for the first time. Surprisingly the tents are very easy to put up 😊 I ended up tenting with Gabi the girl from Botswana. We caught a train around 3pm into D.C and walked around for a bit then looked for a good stop to watch the fireworks (between the Washington monument and the Abraham Lincoln monument). Mainly just hung out there until the fireworks started, after the fireworks we went to the Abraham Lincoln memorial to have a look around before catching the train back to the campsite. The couple on our tour got engaged before the fireworks!!! All in all a great first day on my trekamerica tour! 😊
