Participants travel from as far as California to participate.
We joined several Harley riders from Florida to celebrate Memorial Day in Washington. The culmination was participating in the Rolling Thunder Ride to the Wall, to bring awareness of still missing MIA and KIA veterans. The ride was a quarter of a million motorcycles strong, the largest one day motorcycle event in the world.

We drove from Maine in our camper and trailed our bike with us. One couple took their bikes from Florida on the train and then rode back to Florida after Rolling Thunder. Six of our Fort Lauderdale HOG members rode to Washington meeting up the the rest of the gang. We had a total of eleven riders leaving from Patriot Harley in Virginia to the Rolling Thunder starting point, The Pentagon.

We had a long and hot wait for the start of the ride. The temperatures were in the 90's with lots of humidity. There were so many bikes in attendance that it took 3 hours, from the jet flyover signifying the start, until the last bike left the parking lot. Five minutes into the ride down Pennsylvania Avenue all of the waiting was forgotten. It is a day we will all never forget.

Each memorial represents a life lost at the Pentagon on 911. Those facing in were plane passengers and those facing out were Pentagon employees.
