I have been going through my photos and I am struggling to pick the best ones, I have 455 photos! I'm trying very hard to pick the best for you 😊 On one of the days we went on an epic 20 mile ride, through the landscape, the pastures, through canyons, totally amazing. At numerous times we would come across a massive water container. These water containers are dotted around the 22,000 acre ranch and are supplied by one of the six fresh water springs. If you look closely enough you will actually see goldfish in there! They eat the algae and keep the water clean, amazing! No more having to clean water troughs 😊
The scenery was just amazing, if you look at the photos you can see how blue the sky is and how vast the land is. We walked, did a bit of trotting and also had a canter or too, great fun.
Half way around we stopped at the haunted house. We tied our horses to the rail and we learned what happened to make the house haunted.... Apparently in the 1930's a young couple came to the land and tried to farm it. However,
as you can see, the land is not good for farming, in fact you could not farm it atall. It is good for grazing and that is pretty much it. So anyway, they took the top layer of the ground up and found sand. This meant that whenever the wind got up, the house and everything around would be COVERED in sand, this was the first part. As they couldn't farm it, the man went and found work elsewhere as a truck drive. The women (who I guess would have been about 19 years old in that era) was there all on her own. Soon they had a baby, and again the man had to leave again. After four years the women killed her now four year old daughter and then herself. I imagine she was so isolated there, no-one around, and also the winter would have been horrific. The daughter was buried in the garden and the mother was buried about a mile away up on the hill so 'she could look at what she did'.
A pretty horrific story....the house is dilapidated, garden overgrown, outbuildings falling down. Supposedly, when Tom and Darcy have tried to do something
with the property (as it is on their land) something happens. Therefore now they just leave it.
Whilst we were there Jake, who is the chef, bought us all packed lunches. It was so great to be outside, eat outside, then get back onto our horses and carry on riding. We had saddle bags and so we carried everything with us, water, cameras, and even extra layers tied to the back our saddles. Completely self sufficient!
We carried on our journey to find a herd to check on it. Along the way we found a cow that was on the wrong side of the fence so we had to get it back in, that was fun!
