Rounding up
At 7am every morning the wranglers would round up the houses from the pasture and bring them in. There are over 60 horses out together. We started our real experience on Monday as the horses do not work at the weekend. We went to see the Wranglers bringing the horses in at 7am. It was the most INCREDIBLE site, dozens of horses came trotting, cantering, bucking, frolicking over the hill, dust flying, a huge expanse of land with these beautiful creatures. Amazing. The night before, the wranglers had asked us our riding ability so we were matched up with what we wanted to ride. My horse was called JR and he was so great. Solid type, strong shoulders, power, bit of fire in him, great 😊
We had to saddle up and I'll tell you something, the saddles were SO heavy, not like the English saddles. There is no way you could lift it onto the horses back so you had to swing it on, a real knack was needed!
That day we went for a small ride through some of the land, just getting used to our horses and also different way of riding. Long reins, with only one hand and steering by using 'neck reining'.
