Shortly after entering Coolorado, we turned off the highway for lunch at a reststop, where we immediately encountered this dramatic expanse of metal teepees and buffaloes: a 21st interpretation of the horse tribes--such as the feared Comanchee--which ranged from Southern Colorado to West Texas. We listened to more of "Empire of the Summer Moon" as we traversed the Rocky Mountains on our way to Grand Junction...another nine-hour drive on our second day. Once in GJ, we enjoyed a walk along GJ's friendly downtown pedestrian mall that features an eclectic display of permanent and temporary art sculptures. Before leaving GJ, a drive to the Colorado National Monument---where we hiked with friends in the spring of 2011.
